(poll) What region should Aoe2 visit in the next DLC?

Good idea actually (20 chars)

Yes, and at least come with 3 campaigns for Jurchens, Khitans and obviously Chinese…

As many as are needed to fill the entire world map…

I value it…and that they have potions that give them area damage xd…

Yes, but that’s how it is…in AoE 3 we’ll have to settle for 24 civs and only 3 Asian civs for years until the next 3 Ultra DE, while the goose that lays the golden eggs reaches 100 civs from 500 BC to 1600 AD… :man_shrugging:

Yeah, they probably do that…

Yes, a Balkan DLC (Serbia, Croatia, Albania, Wallachia) and then another Black Sea one reworking the Slavs (Ruthenia and Khazars)…

Yes, it’s a matter of gameplay: “modernizing” AoE 2 to attract people from AoE 4 and viceversa…

Sure, they would have to rename the Turks to Ottomans and then create a Seljuk civilization more focused on mounted archers and without gunpowder…

In this case it’s the same, all the merchant cities of northern Italy spoke Italian…

The problem is that the Lombards spoke Latin, not Italian… they would have to rename the Romans Lombards instead…

That’s why… at least they should run campaigns for the Jurchens and Khitans and finally charge you $30…

The Rise of Guelps Cities…

Yes, they will make a big expansion but they will ruin it with something…

Sure, we have to remember why they have those names in the first place…

Yes, at least to cover the period between the Arab conquests and the Crusades (632-1095)… because then you have:

9th century: Ironside (only Viking attacks here and there in the Mediterranean)

11th century: Seljuks (985-1071) and the Hautevilles (the First Crusade between 1095-1099)

12th century: Thoros, Cyprus, and Saladin (1141-1192): the Second and Third Crusades

13th century: Genghis Khan and Edward Longshanks (1206-1271): the conquest of Persia by Genghis Khan and the Eighth Crusade with Lord Edward

14th century: Tamerlane (conquest of the Ilkhanate and the victory of Ankara between 1370 and 1402)

15th century: Nothing that I remember

16th century XVI:Ismail and Lepanto (1501-1571)

Yes, a Turkish rework like they did with the Ottomans in AoE 3…the Janissary, the Sipahi and little else (the Horse Archer can be changed for the Akinji too)…

Yes, it could be Ayyubids (Baibars), Crusaders (Baldwin IV), Kurds (Saladin) and Bedouins or Arabs (Muhammad/Abu Bakr)…

That’s true… since 2022 when DoI came out and Shannon Loftis left World Edge, they’ve been messing up… they release weird DLC for AoE 2 and simply abandon AoE 3 to its fate and be modder fodder…

Yes, at least the Galeazza should be a regional unit for Franks, Italians, and Sicilians…

Nah, I don’t think they’ll go into those parts… they’ll probably leave the mythology for AoM, but what I do see is that in the end they’ll make a RoR-type DLC like a data mod but with the AoE 3 civs for the 20th anniversary in October… the 24 civs with 2 UU at most and only the civ bonuses and no team bonuses or anything and they’ll make it a separate mode within the AoE 2 client…

It could be… something like a Crusader DLC and touch on the missing Crusades (the second, the fourth to the seventh and the ninth)…

Crusaders remain Franks (conveniently that was the generic name Muslims gave to Crusaders) Teutons whatever other civ this group comes from…

If I were to split the Saracens it would be

  • Egyptians (inheriting the Mameluke)
  • Mashriqi (Levant, Syria, Iraq, based on the dynasties from the islamic golden age)
  • Bedouins (Arabia, very focused on camels and light cav. Mostly based on the early conquests)

All people do not buy for Campaigns you know.

And a campaign player doesn’t care about historicity. Three Kingdoms campaign is actually already fun to play.

Ingame italians speak latin not italian if I remember.

Why is there no Americas option?

Yeah, it would be weird to have the Egyptians in AoE 2…on Wikipedia the Mamluk Sultanate was the Circassian state, but the Egyptians are better known…after that, the rest are fine I guess, Levantines and Bedouins sound correct…

Yes, at most it’s 60-70% of all players…and I’m mostly a campaign player, and I expect a bit of historicity in a game that calls itself “historical”…

Yes, you’re right, they speak medieval Latin like the Byzantines (I was thinking about the Italians from 3DE), so yes… no problem, rename them Lombards and then finally include the Italians, speaking medieval Italian (or Florentine as it was known at the time)…

You mean the main 5 cities genoa florance milan venice papacy similar to 3k.

Of course, Age of Cities xd…

Exact…

,What region should Aoe2 visit in the next DLC?‘’

The region of our hearts.

Haha but really, i think there are so many civs out there that could fit very well as AoE2 civs BUT we have SO many already and with every new civ we get the exact same visuals with one (or two) new units, small boni and another strange gimmick most of the time. I once loved every introduction of new civs but now i’m at a point that i personally think there are things that are missing more than any civ. More visual differences. Way more new architecture sets to represent civs better (something like 2 or 3 civs per set maximum would be nice) and regional unit skins for EVERY generic unit (including villagers) are the new things (maybe the only things) i would love to see at this point in the game.

The update with the new castles, monk skins etc. was the best (for me personally) that happened to the game for a long time. It was a big step in the right direction from my point of view and i thought:,Maybe i will finally play alot of AoE2 again in the future’'. And then the 3K DLC happened and this thought disappeared immediately.

Kinda sad but i don’t know.

This poll isn’t proper without , Americas" option.

I really hope the next DLC can be about the Balkans. Meanwhile they could also edit the Byzantines a little bit. Perhaps buff the Cataphract and add Varangian Guards as a unique militia-line elite upgrade

There should be a whole Oceania expansion adding at least the Polynesians, Micronesians, and Filipinos. They could have a new architecture set.

No new regions should be visited, at least not by this dev team.

Aoe2 need not be further desecrated

Fix the damn messed up 3K DLC nonsense by adding the missing civs (Tibetans, Tanguts, etc) and the campaigns missing for Chinese, Koreans, etc.

Since 2023, every DLC idea they touch, every DLC they ruin.
The only decent one was chronicles among these subpar DLCs, and it wasn’t developed by FE. Just saying.

East Asia, PROPERLY, WITH RESPECT
