Possible method for unit variation testing?

Hey,
So, with the introduction of the Savar and so many cavalry unique units being the “Fits that (Knight or Hussar) role but with slightly adjusted stats” we’ve seen that civs functioning with different shapes of the same basic building blocks still works. I think it would be pretty interesting to at least trial(meaning temporary, not yet decided on, etc.) different units for both some historical flavor and variety in the game. Off the top of my head you could have: Billmen, jezzails, streltsy, whatever you think would make a culture better represented and either show off their strengths or not alter their weaknesses. But I know it wouldnt go over well. So, I had an idea to pitch to the developers.

Release unit swaps as a covert test by using them as “event specific” features. For example Franks and Britons stop at light cavalry and have no bloodlines, generally terrible. They could be made into Hobilars, a wide group representative of the units that rode Hobby horses that the norsemen brought with them. You could force the player to need a cheap research to get them and give them a token +5hp or something-would make no difference to trash wars they will still lose to completely vanilla hussars. See how it goes over, then start doing things slightly more consequential if it goes well.

Just interested in seeing more changes, I want them to be done with caution and careful testing, and to not change the basic functions of the game’s balance but ultimately I want them to continue to come.
Thank you for your time.

I’m afraid this is not plausible. It would change too much the game core design, and alter civilizations that ultimately don’t need it.

Persians were an exception because they needed something.
