Does anyone know if it is possible to install and play Lords of the West using the free version of AOE II DE that is available with the Microsoft Game Pass?

Let me rephrase…I realize I have to purchase Lords of the West, but do I also have to purchase AOE II DE. or will the purchased Lords of the West work with the free AOE II DE that I can download using Game Pass? To restate in a different way, do I have to BUY AOE II DE to use my purchased copy of Lords of the West?
You should be able to play as long as you have active Game Pass. Once your subscription is off, you have to purchase AoE II DE to play.
