I’ll add to this an example. Philippines. Their language change was not gradual and natural, as it was in the Roman Empire. It was sudden and imposed, and nobody would say that they have radically different cultures before 1898 and after that

That’s true, with The Conquerors the timeline of aoe 2 was extended, went from being from 1152 (Barbarossa) to 1453 (Joan of Arc) to from 434 (Attila) to 1598 (Noryang Point), with The Forgotten, it was extended to 410 (Alaric) and then in the DE to 394 (Alaric again)

I wouldn’t personally like going beyond Theodosius in the past or beyond 1599 in the future

I didn’t really care about it until I saw that castle. Now I’m hyped.

Yeah,it is unlikely that to happen, after 1600 is AoE 3 territory, one thing is to put AoE 1 content that shares the same engine as AoE 2, another very different thing is to create AoE 3 content from scratch to put it in AoE 2 and that could be counterproductive for AoE 3 how entry of the saga…
