Proof Three Kingdoms was originally planned as a Chronicles/alternate mode

Shannon Loftis started the whole thing, lol.

When they announced a DLC with zero plans, then had to kill a game with a few thousand active players (top 5 among all RTS), you can smell something really bad…and some people still naively believe ā€œthat game is just financially unviable. We will be fineā€, or get angry when you warn them ā€œyou’re getting lower value with higher priceā€.

There is already smoke everywhere but some people still believe it’s not a fire…

Office politics, major shifts in leadership, bad management, shortage of funds or manpower, or maybe all of them.
What we know is they have adopted this aggressive monetization mindset with major focus on milking the playerbase as much as possible with minimal efforts.

Maybe because they just become greedy. Maybe because they’re in real trouble and have to struggle to survive. Who knows.

AoE3’s DLC and patching being abruptly was a major ā€˜ā€˜Canary in the Coal Mine’’ event that something very wierd was going on internally, in my opinion. I know most folk in this forum play AoE2 only, but the franchise never canceled a DLC like that. It showed that the focus was shifted towards short term profitability.

There is still plenty of time to change for a sustainable course for AoE2, so its not too late here. A few renames and tweaks and this DLC can be a sucess, i believe. But i do admit that the ā€˜ā€˜doomers’’ have some backing behind their points.

Then the patch should be postponed to revert back to normal.

It’s not just one DLC. They need to change course and return to normal. It’s the first quarter of the year and they already mess up so hard.

Wont it look really weird if 3K units had the skins of ancient greeks from chronicles?unless they had plans to redo all the skins(which would have been awesome)

Again from the director or senior that does not know about gaming? This has been happening for so many times in other games. Literally sickening of laymen leading experts in gaming industry.

One thing to note as well is FE doubled it’s team from a couple years ago but the output was slowed down to a crawl. Now, they did work on the latest IV DLC but again…100 devs is nothing to sneeze at. WE has a small dev team, Tantalus is doing their thing, Wicked Witch does whatever it does.

Yet DLC and support is getting outright canceled, and now DLC for the golden goose has been cannibalized from Capture Age.

Storytelling wise, it’s weird if the players could play as Cao Cao in red cliff. It’s considered if Cao Cao, the strongest warlord, wins the Red Cliff, China will be reunited thus the three kingdoms thing will never happens. (Imagine the persian wins the battle of Salamis)

It need to be in Chronicles format, a single linear story in order for it to make sense.

unless It’s an other ā€˜force lose’ scenario, which the community never likes it.

There are many force lose scenarios and people tend to be fine with them

I think all of the campaigns have Chibi as the final level. If you win as Wei, you get an alternate ending slide, the other two get the Romance outcome

If DLC actually did feature levels in the Three Kingdoms period, then i’d assume things would be much different.

That’s six years late to the scene when TW3K has already killed itself due to failed DLC sales and CA’s internal problems…

Nice try, WE.

…what? Yet another 3K game ending before the 3K were even established?

I also think force lose scenarios are fine, but I don’t and I don’t think people like them as much as other scenarios do.

Since Red Cliff will be the finale, yea, we change history and kills the three kingdoms before it happens, in a three kingdoms DLC 11

Seems like it. That’s bound to sour reception among 3K fans for sure, to put it lightly.

WE execs to the fans ā€œisn’t 3k cool fellow millennialsā€

Seems WE did their market research but not much…

The biggest complaint about TW3K was that it ended even before the Red Cliff.
Then the more recent Wolong and Dynasty Warriors Origins were smart enough putting a ā€œpreludeā€ tag to their premises so that they don’t need to cover the whole story.

WE, you still have the time. Add an ā€œoriginsā€ to your title before it’s too late.

That’s like starting a Star Trek prequel series, then cancelling it before you get to the signing of the Federation Charter. Oh wait…

So you are asking to add Jenna D’arc in ranked for Franks? Surely devs will do that in the next patch.

My goodness, i’d hope not.

I bring up that whole thing becasue it was a clear case of the devs listening and changing stuff taking our feedback into account. It was also financially quite sucessful, as we know SA sold very well.

Heroes being in AOE2 is conceptually wrong. The devs know this, they seemingly have made them both prohibitively expensive and without the magic spells they will have in campaigns. Just actually commit and cut them from Ranked and Skirmish already and a lot of people will be happy, please.
