The easiest and arguably the best solution is to move the 3K civs to Chronicles and make a proper medieval East Asia DLC.
Renaming won’t work cause it involves too many changes and not just a simple change of name. If it’s just a change of name without modifying the content of the civs then it’s even worse than what we have now.
Very helpful feedback. Admittedly this is more based on civs I’d personally want rather than what can strictly be reworked easiest. Hence why the Ryukyurans are here and not the Wuyue.
While my ideas aren’t very focused, it is still as much historically accurate as AoE2 is willing to get these days. Just look at the Armenians if 3K is too much of an exceptional case.

Generally agree. My English isn’t that good, so I didn’t fully understand the original author’s meaning at first. I would prefer to change the entire game content of the Three Kingdoms to represent different civilizations with tech trees and cultural characteristics, and even add more than three civilizations, including Tibetan, Bai, Tangut/Uyghur, and Ryukyuan, rather than just changing the names and unit appearances. Therefore, this might require a fork of the ranked match for using this mod that alters the game content.
Wuyue isn’t a distinct civ or people either, but rather the name of a short-lived kingdom during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period in the 10th century AD. Hence renaming Wu to Wuyue won’t solve the problem. The best solution is just to move the 3K civs to Chronicles. Apart from renaming Wei to Xianbei, all other proposed renames involve substantial changes to the civs, and it’s better just to make a proper new civ instead.
Yes I agree. It would be much better to remake a proper medieval East Asian DLC with the new civs that people want to see instead of renaming the 3K civs.
My only objection to that is that I like most of the 3K units aesthetically and conceptually, so I wanna still use them in regular games.
Some of the models could easily be recycled.
Maybe you could keep a few of the models, but I really don’t like them in regular or ranked games. They’re definitely better suited as Chronicles material.
