Chasquis

A shock infantry replaces the Eagle Warrior line for Inca and future South American civs.

Dark Age

Chasquis Scout. Can’t be trained in Dark Age. But start with one replacing Eagle Warrior. Stat is same as a Dark Age Scout Cavalry.

Can be trained from Barracks after reaching to Feudal Age.
Cost = 65 food
Armor Class = Infantry, Shock Infantry

Feudal Age

Attack = 4 (melee)
Speed = 1.30

Rest stats are same as a Feudal Age Scout Cavalry.

Castle Age

Attack = 5 (melee)
Speed = 1.40
Armor Class = Infantry, Shock Infantry

Rest stats are same as a Light Cavalry.

Imperial Age

Attack = 6 (melee)
Speed = 1.50

Rest stats are same as a Hussar.

Wow nice mod skin love it

I’ve been doing my own research on Chasqui to try to come up with my own idea. Not sure on the exact stats, but I wanted to try to capture the relay system a bit.

The Chasqui line would be armed with a club, as per history, so the idea of it being a combat unit is not far-fetched. The Chasqui would have greater line of sight compared to Eagles and Scouts, but a bit slower movement in the Dark Age.

In the Feudal Age, it would receive extra speed, but its LOS would stay the same, apart from the automatic +2 it gets from Tracking. From there, its LOS would not really improve.

In the Castle Age, things start to get interesting. Its upgrade, the Churo Chasqui (a shell-bearing Chasqui), would receive 10% extra speed within 7 tiles of a Town Center or Castle. This would be on top of the speed improvement it gets normally from aging up.

In the Imperial Age, in addition to extra speed from aging up and the extra speed from TC and Castle proximity, the final upgrade, the Curaca (a type of local chief), would receive 20% faster attack in the same radius. Chasqui have fairly slow attack speed, so this would help defensively.

All South American civs would have this line, but the Inca would receive a new unique stone building, the Tambo, which would not only provide the same aura improvements as TCs and Castles, but also healing. In addition, Tambos could train Chasqui and Slingers, and provide the same aura improvements to the latter (but not any other building). This would even more accurately reflect the relay system that the Inca Empire used.

Please don’t. Just try traditional stat, no gimmick ability.

Mere stat changes result in units that don’t really feel different from one another.

They are scout cavalry replacement. They don’t need to feel different. Cavalry vs Shock Infantry armor class is already more than enough distinction.

Chasqui was regularly just a messenger, even centuries after the fall of the Incas, the name was still used in southamerica for reffering someone delivering messages. Sometimes exactly Chasqui, sometimes Chasque
Still, not a soldier, not even in a “what if it was assaulted, surely it has some sort of
” no, the man just RUN, that was his thing, run, and don’t call me shirley

Why would the Chasqui carry weapons if not for self-defense? They could obviously have a combat role if needed. There’s no other type of Inca soldier that could fill the scouting role.

Cuz they only RUN DMC

What about making them a singular unit, spawn with the TC, massive LOS but a 1 attack damage, not trainable again

Because South American civs need an Eagle equivalent, the Chasqui had clubs so wouldn’t be totally useless in combat, and the game isn’t historically accurate, only historically inspired. The South American civs must have a raiding unit, and Chasqui are the closest thing to that.

I understand they need some kind of replacement for that line

The Inca army ussually faint a retreat so, the eagle scout line replacement could still be fast, but without the same LOS, shock infantry tag, no furry hat, not a scout either

Historically inspired is adding a chasqui as explorer to imply the messages about enemy movement arriving fast, the idea of having a explorer unit that just explore is that bad?, make the chasqui a “X” limited at the time trainable explorer with great LOS for the whole scout thing

Giving a soldier unit line the name “chasqui” to fight in the front line is not historically accurate nor inspired

Ok, sure

Nop

Yes. And there’s nothing else that can work unless you completely make something up. Do you want a made-up unit in the game?

It’s bad for AoE2. You can’t deprive an entire group of civilizations of a raiding unit, because then they’ll suck.

Why would the Chasqui carry clubs just to send messages? It’s good to be prepared for fighting, especially when sending messages to the front lines. I suppose you’re going to complain that Scout Cavalry aren’t just for scouting, but can fight too? If you don’t, you’re a hypocrite; it’s the exact same thing.

Glad you agree.

They are a fast scouting unit, just like the Scout Cavalry, which is also a raiding unit. The role and equivalence are obvious to everyone but you.

Getting hung up on a units name is just silly when we have unique unit called a composit bowman.

I don’t need to make something up, just peak one of the arms they use (like the spear) and put them in the eagle scout line, no furry hat, not for a scout purpose, fast but for a raiding unit, representing the blockades of roads used to subdue a city

All good now

Marvelous opotunity to give them a civ distinction, by making their explorer a explorer and the raider a raider

I suppose things too, but mostly don’t share it, because it could be more of an opinion based on a false proposition rather than a valid statement for a conversation

Dravidians. The sole reason the civ sucks.

Yeah, proving my point. Thankfully, receiving Husbandry somewhat mitigated the issue.

And I absolutely hate it.

Why would you hate the Dravidians having viable raiding options?

Which a lot of people complained about
