Oh, I just realised how OP this tech might be for the spear line. May the entire Hindu pantheon save us if Dravidians get FU halberdier, it would be brutal in trash wars
They would be just as strong as Burmese halbs vs trash or even weaker if the target doesn’t have last melee upgrade.
It’s still stronger in certain situations than anything else we’ve seen. Commonly that’s +3 damage, but scales up to 13extra damage (Vs TK). But I wonder if it’s a debuff Vs rams?
So it really depends on a number of things like cost, and available tech.
For all we know it’s fairly cheap, but the civ lacks BF. So it’s almost a variation of farimba.
On a similar note, Burmese champs do higher dps to Sicilian cav, than their halbs do. Crazy.
This is actually ok.
And in some ways makes more sense. Heavy camels with that bonus will be nuts. Whereas consider other civs with heavy bonuses, they usually lack something :
Farimba - hussar, BF
Sicilians - hussar, paladin
Burg - bloodlines
Malay-ironically the 2nd best ele civ atm, even though they lack literally almost everything
Cumans are a CA civ that lack bracer, who would’ve guessed
Not counting smith attack upgrades :
Camel rider : 6 attack, +9 vs cav. Add +4.5 for the bonus
Heavy camel : 7 attack, +18 vs cav
A regular camel with the bonus would be very underwhelming : total 19.5 vs cav as opposed to 25 for regular heavy camel, with less hp on top of that. It WOULD be one of the worst IA camels.
Usually heavy bonuses but a missing tech still make the unit overall stronger than the average, the only exception would be not having to take a very expensive upgrade, but the heavy camel upgrade is much cheaper than the paladin upgrade.
True this bonus would be strong but maybe it lacks the final cav armour for example, and it would hurt the camel line especially hard since it starts with 0/0 armour. We don’t know that yet.
From the leak we could assume is real: their camel rider does 50% more bonus damage, has +4 MA, costs -25%less food, trains 20% faster.
The more I think about it, the more I think that was their stable. Since their camel rider becomes a much better generalist. It also means they likely can’t have hussars (the discount)
The image also doesn’t show the entire Imperial age stable, meaning it is possibly not showing the shiv upgrade for Imperial age.
Of course I could be wrong. Math might be off:
Hussars will only do 4 dmg to Guj camels (30 hits to kill) and cavaliers will take 3 more hits to kill a Guj camel(14), than generic heavy camels (11)
Guj camel Vs generic heavy camel kill each other in Equal hits (10)
That’s why I think they don’t get the heavy camel upgrade, cause heavy camels with this amount of bonusses would be insanely strong.
But also to mention non-heavy camels with these bonusses would only be slightly more cost efficient than standard heavy camels in many situations.
Interesting. I think we’re interpreting the 50% differently. I take it to mean 50% more bonus damage, as in all its bonus damage is x1.5’d, making it better at killing cavalry. You seem to be taking it to mean +50% of its regular damage as bonus damage, making it a better generalist.
(Either that or you’re talking about the armor and cost reduction, and I’m misinterpreting.)
Edit: Or I’m way behind in the conversation and you meant that a non-heavy camel with all these things is a bit worse than a regular heavy camel at killing cavalry but better as a generalist. Yeah, I think you meant that.
Yeah sorry. I left out a word. ![]()
The +4 melee attack would make it a better generalist. Alright I only had the +50% in mind…
Gujarati camel : 6+4 base attack, 9+4.5 vs cav : 10 + 13.5 vs cav
Regular heavy camel : 7 base, 18 bonus vs cav
Interesting, that would be trading some damage vs cav (-1.5) for some damage vs everyone else (+4). All while costing 43f60g instead of 55f60g, but having less hp than the heavy.
I was in the process of adding “In fact, I’m sure you meant that” when I saw your reply. ![]()
Yeah tougher Vs melee opponents, but weaker at killing things, and much weaker Vs ranged units. I think it’s a fair trade and makes them unique. Like the poles insane winged hussar.
I’m sure someone more patient will do a full analysis Vs the various camel civs. It’s still amazing the variety of camels we have already from self healing to chonky Bois. And now we get more. Would be cool if they added an additional bonus damage type on camels to increase their versatility, which the gurj would benefit even more from (eg attack bonus +2 dmg Vs siege)
And of course an Indian/Hindustani/whatever the new name is, ally bonus dmg Vs buildings will get boosted as well.
Haha no worries
There already is a damage category for camels, the regular camel has +5 and the heavy camel +9. The halb has +26. Camels take that damage instead of the usually larger cavalry damage.
In fact, the mameluke also has its own damage class.
According to the wiki camel units do not have the cavalry armor class, while for instance cavalry archers do. That’s why the bonuses that anti-cavalry units have against camels are so large, because they’re instead of rather than in addition to.
As opposed to those poor elephants who get both cavalry and elephants, grand total of +60 for the halb
What do you get when you cross an elephant with a camel?
Shish kebab.
I have never eaten any of those animals but I’m willing to bet it would have an interesting taste ![]()
Sorry I meant as in giving camels a bonus attack damage to increase their viability Vs more targets, without increasing their base damage. Like they have a bonus Vs cav, camels, ships, fishing ships.
For example they could add something like +2 Vs siege. And then gurj would get a +3.
They would still be much less cost effective Vs siege (in this example) but not as bad as they currently are.
Giving more reason to actually Field their camels.
As it stands I don’t see why you would field those “melee heavy” camels(edit: not “heavy camels”) unless you’re facing a cav civ. Vs anyone else this thing is almost wasted due to that insanely low dps. Due to the 6 base dmg in Imperial age
It is actually 6 base in castle age. It is 7 in Imp.
sorry i think you misunderstood, a camel has 6 base damage, and then gets upgrades from the black smith. only a heavy camel has 7 base damage. (not that it matters, but i wouldve said something like 7 effective damage if i was factoring upgrades vs armour or some such)
edit: i see the problem, i didnt mean melee “heavy camels” i meant “melee heavy” camels, as in stronger in melee due to their +4 MA
