I have two suggestions of small things I’d really like to see in this game.
1: Royal Guards icons
Royal Guards are a great concept. It makes European civs more unique without breaking balance in a major way. It’s quite hard to distinguish them in game though. Of course you can see it from the upgrade cost, but it would be so nice to be able to see on the upgrade icon that it’s a royal guard. For instance it could have a gold lining or something like that.
2: War wagons with Czech voicelines
Afaik, war wagons were a hussite invention and were mainly used in the hussite war. I understand that given Germany’s balance we aren’t going to see them in age 2 in relation to the historical timeframe. However it would be so cool if the war wagons would actually have Czech voicelines rather than German ones. Historically I think it makes much more sense. Besides that we don’t have any Czech representation in the game (besides the map) which does feel a bit odd to me since Bohemia was an important region in Europe during the timeframe (30 years started there for instance). Imo this is a nice opportunity to add some good flavour to the game without impacting the balance at all.
Speaking of voicelines, as a native Dutch speaker I think there needs to be a rework of the Dutch voicelines. Some of them make no sense at all and wouldn’t ever be used the way they are. (“Ten oorlog” for instance). I doubt devs will touch this though and it’s not super important.
Make them stand out rather than just being lost. Is this unit a Royal Guard or a Unique Unit or the result of a quirky shipment? Let’s make things easier to read.
I would also hope the Devs take a leaf out of the Better Descriptions mod book for unit descriptions as a whole.
Personally, I would like the flavour texts of some Units to be reinforced as well. Some of them lack descriptions, and in the case of African animals, the descriptions are so poor that it feels strange compared to animals from other ecosystems.
