I’ve been playing Age of Empires for quite some time now and the shorter matchmaking times with a wider spread ELO matching is honestly the worst. I’m around 1200 1v1 and 1200 in multiplayer so I know some basic stuff about buildorders and stuff. But to get matched with people who just naked fc in Arabia with no loom on flank and people that just blindly fc and boom in Arabia is so annoying. I’d rather wait 2 more mins to get to play with people who actually play with some sort of strategy. There’s a massive skill gap between 900/1200 elo. The way it was before the faster matchmaking was way better. I don’t like playing within 2 mins if the games last only about 10 mins. Either you die fast or you stomp the opponents.. No real gameplay to be honest.

Are others struggling with these problems as well or is it just a skill issue from my side?

It’s really just a matter of inconsistency. I only get matched with players within 100 Elo of me (in 1v1), but I still have massively one-sided games. Partly because I play anywhere from 20% worse to 30% better at any given time, and I imagine my opponents do to.

In my opinion, the maps are more responsible for one-sided games than matchmaking is, they are far too competitively focused to produce a lot of close games.
