Can devs do something about this ? Even when we have 6500 players online we can’t even reach 300 in Ranked. It’s a pity that not even 10% of the player base doesn’t play Ranked.

Some sickos actually, get this I know hold your breathe and steady yourself, think that “their time” is better spent “relaxing” and “having fun” or god forbid 
"playing cooperatively with friends. I know right? Imagine just booting up this game and pouring a beer and recreating some history or playing w/e or doing fun scenarios that flex their mind. Instead of doing gods work by laddering vs total strangers who hate you, want to ruin your day, and the only thing you can do is play a very limited range of options in a game with meh balance loosing or sweating over and over. Its truly unbelievable that a group of often 30+ year olds with families and success in life could find any value in a game besides being tryharding at all times 
I’m being sarcastic but there is some truth to the above in that ranked tend to be overrepresented in discourse (due to being very passionate tbf), but rarely make a majority. Most people of any strategy game tend to want to play for their own goals not always play “competitvely.”
In short, out of 5.5k how many have even bought the game, then how many want to play ranked is probably not that much. there is also 5k ranked 1v1 players, meaning the 200 was probably at dead hours. Ofc a patch would spice things up, but 200 people at a minimum still aint the worst thing and there are how many in lobby anyways?

There were 5299 players online when I took the screenshot.
5299 players with only 206 playing Ranked.
That’s not at a peak hour but close to it. Peak is like 6500 or so.
We talking only about Steam accounts btw. There are probably another 1k on Xbox Live
Well and as of 7am gmt there was 138 ranked players.

So we are probably what 3 to 5% total? Thats not that far off.
Ofc I’d love to see some more work go into ranked experience. AoM RE already has a lot of QoL yhat id love to see ported over. Imagine if you could with one click see game history and what civ max elo? Or if they brought back monthlt challenges? Those would help and not be too expensive. Im just noting the % of ranked to total isnt surprising.

but speaking for myself, im not playing ranked atm, because of ottomans and the lack of patches

Isn’t this normal? Most people in almost any game don’t usually play competitively.
Although the amount is small, I think the proportion is quite similar to other games.

I play ranked even though I swear it is full of hackers and meta sweating losers
Is that people searching? or does it include people currently in a match? cause those 2 numbers are not the same.

Ranked is played by a minority of players in RTS games. Also with the game going free to play with trial version those new players can’t queue up for ranked.
They can, just limited to the civs in rotation.
They cant queue up for Ranked. The only ranked they can do is ones for lobby which is treaty and deathmatch.
