Unless that challenge involves nomad and megarandom*
Who says there are two insta ban maps all the time? For you that may be true but then again you’re also the guy who can’t make up his mind. On one hand you say…
This right here. But then you turn arounf and spew this.
So basically it looks like you only want people to adapt “within a very narrow purview of what I consider variation”.
And clearly the devs idea of standard start is very different from yours.
So it looks like to me the person who is limiting their variance is YOU despite rhe fact that you want others to challenge themselves to variety.
Which means you need to stop talkjmg about others challenging themselves ro variance until you Hold yourself to the standard you’re trying to force on others.
Which is why I say let all the random map scripts be in the queue. I will choose my preferences, and I’ll leave it at that.
My ‘nomad’ elo is still in the 900 range.
I have no desire to play it within the standard queue, but I do desire to play it casually from time to time.
But again my po8nt is you’re being hugely hypocritical.
You’re telling others they must be held to a higher standard of adaptability but then you turn around and remove two of the maps that make you adapt more then most.
When it’s the map that changes, not the starting units, that’s what I wish to adapt for. Having to start with only 3 vills, or 6 vills +camel and two tcs and other such non-standard starts puts me off and I have very little desire to play such styles in the standard ranked queue - I would love it in a party queue I intentionally queue for but never in the standard queue. Elo starts to have no meaning at all with non-standard starts.
I will remove maps to my preference, and so will the rest of the playerbase.
I will also star maps to my preference same as the rest, and the odds that a map will be starred by both players will ensure that most of the time the match will be on a map both players enjoy and if not then 99% of the time on a map that at least is tolerable.
Nomad has been around since the original Age of Conquerors game came out in 2000 and even MegaRandom has been around since 2013 so they’re hardly new game modes. Once you have your TC up on Nomad it’s not that different from Arabia, aside from the water and less predictable resources. There were a lot of Nomad only players in the Voobly days, I don’t think it’s fair to ban it from the ranked pool. Personally not my favourite but it’s a hugely popular map, it would be crazy to relegate it to unranked only games.
I agree Fortress is way too crazy to be on the ranked ladder. But Nomad and MegaRandom are staples of the game and I honestly don’t mind seeing them on the rotation.
MM should be a best solution for most of the players. Many players have its preferences. The stick to certain maps. A lot of them are open to play other maps once in a while, but just by adding all maps to the map pool, you get a situation which is disliked by many players.
Having some maps fixed and having other maps in rotation will result in much more players who wanna try out the different map. Like putting the maps of a big tournament into the map pool. Many players would like that. But most will also stick to the known world.
If you are one of the few players who really want to explore all the map types, then you can go to the lobby. The lobby is the place for niche maps and niche settings.
Seems like you have added this to the thread. Terrible idea. You cant compare EW with KOTH for example. They play out totally different. So they should not be on the same ladder. Also most of your examples arent played that much. So it is a niche and isnt feasible for MM.
I also love you hate for maps like MR and Nomad, while they just follow the RM rules. Yes, the maps are different, but Arabia and Black Forst are also different. And Islands and Arena are also different. But they still follow the RM rules on the ladder.
Islands, black forest, arabia, runestones, arena, team islands 4 lakes and many more all have one thing in common; the standard start.
As for the second queue - the theme is chaos, as a party mode queue with many different modes I find that very acceptable to be entirely different between the selections.
As for the elo of the ranked party queue, each mode would have its own ranking and accessed individually via the ranked custom lobby system if wanted.
