I wonder if the Age of Mythology: Retold - Legacy Deity Portrait Pack could get an update.
Current reviews are negative because the dlc does not deliver in quality - not because people stopped enjoying the original paintings by David Cherry.
The portraits should follow the same style as the original AoM. The new portraits don’t respect the original game’s art style; examples of this are the portraits of Kronos, Thor, Poseidon, and Zeus. The new portraits (I’m not referring to the portrait DLC.) are too grotesque or exaggerated, as if they were made by a novice who lacks the ability to maintain the classic style. I would have preferred for them to keep the same original portraits (AOM ExtendedEdition) but with different position, backgrounds, situations, or lighting. I don’t like the idea of the gods looking like two completely different characters!
It appears that AOMR is trying to imitate the horrible style of AoE4. What the developers don’t realize is that an RTS game’s success relies heavily on its classic art style, the portraits, icons, and music, something AoE4 will never understand.

My critique is directed at the new god portraits. (I’m not referring to the portrait DLC) I would like the new portraits to maintain the original style of the classic game.
The Portrait Pack DLC is receiving negative reviews because players are demanding that it be free for everyone. The negative reviews is not about the game’s classic art style. I also wish the portrait DLC were free for everyone so that all players could enjoy them, because the other portraits are bad.

So it’s probably not a surprise or even hard to notice but Sobek didn’t exist in AoM or EE so we still have the Hathor portrait. Any chance we could cook up a Sobek portrait in the old style, add it to the DLC, and then add Hathor as a new Minor god in future Egyptian DLC with a new portrait and use her old one as part of the portrait pack.
The best way to handle that pack is to make it like a pseudo subscription. When new Minor and Major gods come out, have one portrait in the new squeaky clean modern art style, and have an older one more in the artistic style of the original release so you can toggle between the two.
