Regional Monks

But DLC is completely optional. This would be something baseline by the way people are asking gor it

Even if you don’t have a particular expansion, you still have to download the graphics for that expansion’s civs, since you can face them in campaigns and multiplayer.

523 MB for both the standard and enhanced graphics
which sounds a lot until you realise that there are already 38 GB of sprites in total.

But if you made skins client side only i dont havs to download them

It depends how they implemented them. The way the game reads graphics now, that’s not true - assuming these regional graphics don’t require a separate data file (to ensure compatibility with players who aren’t using them), if you weren’t using them you’d have to have duplicates of the current graphics in their place.

I haven’t really noticed, but can anyone tell if American monks have a different portrait? The same question for non-european trade carts as well

make it into a graphic DLC and all people are force to see it, but only the one who pay can use it. Just like what other online game did

I think villagers and monks should be baseline.

but Regional units should be client side DLC only. if you want Asian Cavalry you get your asian cavalry, but those who don’t want that shouldn’t have to worry about it.

Thing about villagers is that every villager “job” is its own new sprite. It’s not like later AoE games where it’s a 3D model which doesn’t change unit type when changinng jobs.

In this game you need sprites for

  1. Villager
  2. Gold Miner
  3. Stone Miner
  4. Lumberjack
  5. Shepard
  6. Forager
  7. Farmer
  8. Builder
  9. Repairer
  10. Fisherman
  11. Hunter

So you need skins for 11 units. That viking with red beard hair? You forgot to give it a repairman sprite? Well he can dye his hair now when castles are under siege, I guess. Also, converted villagers will race change when they change jobs. So
 yea.

Don’t they have same sprite?

They might but they are still considered different units.

Even if we have 10 villager types each one has 5 smx files.so 10x5=50 and 8 variations is 400 smx files.
