Remove War Elephant conversion resistance

I’m playing The Emperor Sleeping and trying to convert enemy War Elephants to use them myself. I thought I was having terrible luck, but it turns out they resist conversion! I knew this was a thing for Battle Elephants, and it makes sense for them, because they’re weaker and overall easier to counter, but now War Elephants have absolutely no long-range counter. This is entirely unacceptable. Please fix this by removing their conversion resistance.

They’re so expensive that I actually think that it’s for the best…onagers and halbs are the way to deal with them very effectively. It’s not like your opponent can sustain their production for reasonably long.

As for the conversion resistance, I think the newly added devotion is causing the issue in this case. They could retweak the conversion resistance to +1/+1 imho.

Heavy Scorpion with good mass still works.

Agree with that. Monks at Imperial age are totally useless now vs elephants. You start conversion from the corner of your screen and the elephants still have time to kill your monk. Or at least make a feature that make the elephants walk 2 or 3 times slower during the conversion process.

Perhaps not a popular opinion. It makes sense that bombard cannons do large bonus damage and skirmishers do small bonus damage against elephants.

Not every civ has Heavy scorpions and they work only when massing them. No one mass heavy scorpions without being a solid siege civilisation.

Heavy scorpions counter elephants as an opportunity only. It’s not a real counter.

The Persian War Elephant was long known as the worst unit in the game, due to how expensive it is to make and how easily it could be converted. The devs increased their conversion resistance a bit to help balance it.

It’s not an OP unit at all though. If it was, you’d see good players make them. But that still rarely happens.

Point is there is a ranged counter.

No this isn’t a counter. If you have the mass heavy scorpions already you gonna play them against elephants. But if enemy is going elephants, you will not think like “The guy is going war elephants, I’m gonna build 10 Siege workshop and go heavy scorpions”.
Maybe it can work only with a very few civs (Celts, Romans, Khmers).

There is no ranged counter to Paladins (or Savar) either. Same thing with Burmese Battle Elephants.

Not every Civ needs to be able to counter every unit composition at every stage of the game.
It is intended game design that in most Civ match-ups you have times where your Civ has the advantage and times where it has the disadvantage.

In case of the specific scenario “Emperor Sleeping”, if converting War Elephants is an essential part of the scenario you could replace War Elephants in that scenario with a new editor-only War Elephant that has no conversion resistance.

I think it’s much easier to just disable faith in that scenario. Faster and fool proof. Creating a new editor-only war elephant and changing its stats, then disabling the proper war elephant and replacing it with this version, just does not make sense if faith is the main issue.

Genie Editor dos not work since the April Patch.

Build some houses or military buildings along the path. They’ll get stuck due to poor pathing and you can convert all of them.
