Request for a turn-based remake of Age of Empires: The Age of Kings

Dear developers at Relic Entertainment and Xbox Game Studios, :slightly_smiling_face:

As a longtime fan of the Age of Empires saga, I’d like to propose an idea that I believe can renew and expand the franchise experience. I’m referring to the turn-based, 2D mode we first encountered in Age of Empires: The Age of Kings for Nintendo DS.

This mode, though simple, opened up a new world of strategy based on thought, thoughtful choices, and territorial control. For this reason, I strongly encourage you to consider a modern remake, perhaps on platforms like PC and Nintendo Switch, preserving the charm of the symbolic 2D, representing a compact army with a single unit.

I know that the world of Age of Empires today is dominated by fast-paced, competitive RTS, but I believe there’s a huge audience craving a more thoughtful pace, where every decision counts. I ask you to give this segment of the community a voice, because by combining the past with a modern approach, you could create an extraordinary experience that not only pays homage to the franchise’s roots but also reinvents it for a new generation

…I encourage you to consider not only a standalone remake, but also, if possible, the integration of a 2D turn-based mode into Age of Empires IV. I know online pacing is important, but I suggest implementing a timer, for example, one minute per turn, so that each player has time to think without pressure. If this timer expires, the turn passes to the opponent. This way, we ensure a thoughtful environment, even in the online context, where every move is considered. I believe this addition would make the game truly special, combining strategic depth with the charm of the series.

Thank you for your attention, and I truly hope you hear this request.

Best regards,

100% NO!!!
Turn-based games don’t suit the franchise. Age of Empires should stick to its roots and its strengths. If you want turn-based games, there are plenty of other alternatives.

It was just an idea, given that a turn-based Age game actually existed.

But the game you ask for does already exist.
try Wargroove:

Absolutely not—there’s no comparison between Age of Kings DS and Wargroove. Have you ever played Age of Kings?

I have seen gameplays of Age of Kings DS.

It’s pretty cool, for the time it was made; it’s similar to Fire Emblem.

Now, not everyone could own a Nintendo DS; in South America, most people preferred to get a PlayStation or an Xbox.

Well, nothing prevents Microsoft from doing a rework, or another turn-based game, perhaps this time with better animations (better 3D and 2D art for units, maps or buildings).

Yes, and believe me—for anyone who owned a Nintendo DS and got to play *Age of Kings*—I think it was the best choice they could have made.

And this is exactly the reason why they should not waste money on a product, where they won’t be able to satisfy anybody, even if delivering what was requested.
