Interesting, so genitours would become a type of CA with unique flavour?

What UU would you give Japanese ,
and how would it differ from the horse archer?

There’s a Camel Archer shaped hole in this proposal

Got more time now, so I’ll share more thoughts:

  • Romans, Slavs, Poles, and Lithuanians all used horse archers (Poland, Rus, Lithuania were even located right next to the steppe, and we (Poles) had Tatar regiments in our armies since the medieval era up until WW2). I also don’t think the Genitour should be treated as a Cav Archer replacements as it’s specifically designed as its counter unit; the non-elite variant could be given to the Iberian civs but as a separate unit, not as a replacement for the Cav Archer or Mounted Crossbowman.
  • Not sure about Sicilians, the Cav Archer is one of the few things that actually says this civ isn’t all Norman (although Muslim Sicilian archers fought primarily on foot iirc)
  • Mounted Crossbowmen were historically used by Andalusian and to a lesser degree Syrian armies, but since we have only one Arab civ for now that represents a much wider area (Saracens), they should use Camel Archers (after stat adjustments, only Berbers should have them as strong as they are now) or Cav Archers.
  • Is it wise to remove mounted archers from so many civs?

Terrible idea.

Im with this.if austria gets added as a civi they too should get CA and not CxB.

I disagree with most of this.

Some of those civilization use horse archer : Roman, Goth, Slavs (for them there is an horse archer unit in AoE4), Vietnamese, Poles (have horse archer in AoE3 and in history even the winged hussars used bow), Lithuanian. Most of those civilizations were in eastern Europe were cavalry archer were in use or are old enough to never use crossbow.

I think mounted crossbowmen must be in use for the following civilization : Bohemian (not the heavy upgrade), Britons, Burgundian, Celt (for this civilization it’s even debatable) Danes, Franks, Italians, Portuguese, Saxons, Sicilian, Spanish, Teuton, Varangian, Viking.

Genitour for more civilization maybe yes because iberic civilization used them. Maybe if an audalousian civilization will be added some day they can have genitour alongside other iberic civilizations.

There is this idea, that samurai were in fact horse archers. And when killed would spawn as samurai we all know (like konnik). :stuck_out_tongue: OP ? ofcourse. Closer to reality ? Yes

Why not? its already really different from what it was. I can’t get most friends to play this anymore due to new civs already.

Looking at how Incas slinger change, I don’t prefer to make a unique unit to a regional unit.

I assume Berbers would get bonuses so that their Camel Archers would be as good as they are now

Mounted Samurai.

I’ll double down their latest bonus - Cavalry Archer +2 attack bonus vs archer (except skirmisher).

Japanese
Civ bonus - Cavalry Archer +2 attack bonus vs archer is removed.
Parthian Tactics is removed from tech tree.

Cavalry Archer (Heavy) → Mounted Samurai (Elite)
Cost : 40w/60g → 45w/55g
Training Time : 37, 30 sec → 35, 30 sec
HP : 50, 60 → 50, 65
Attack bonus : +2, +4 vs spearman → +2 vs archer (except skirmisher), +2, +4 vs spearman
Attack delay : 0.90, 0.88 → 0.90
Accuracy : 50%, 80% → 75%, 90%
Melee Armor : 0, 1 → 0
Pierce Armor : 0 → 1, 2
Upgrade cost : 900f/500g → 1000f/600g
Upgrade time - 50 sec → 60 sec

Advantages - Faster training time, less gold cost, more PA, less over all upgrade cost
Disadvanatges - More wood cost, less MA, more individual upgrade cost

Ah yes the most historically unique thing about Berbers… camel riders with a bow. No other desert civ did that!

Not the Blackguards, super armored spear infantry or cavalry. Not the Zenata cavalry. Certainly not

I am ok with archer unit on camels. But I think only Berbers should keep the anti-CA bonus and maybe change the UU name.

Or just have more damage and bonus damage. While Malians and Ethiopians and Saracens would have power on par with foot archers vs non cav archers the Berbers would have +1/2 damage and bonus vs cav archers in Castle and Imperial Age to make up for the difference.

This would be a bit of a boon for both Saracens and Ethiopians as the HP bonus and Royal Heirs respectively would give them strong niches

Malians it would be pretty irrelevant to mind you but I could see other African and Arabian peninsula civs south of Saudi lands preferring this unit

Wouldn’t give it to the Indian subcontinent Camel civs mind you

I would prefer to make their relation more like Mangudai and cavalry archers. Incas have Kamayuk as UU after losing slingers UU. Berbers have Genitours and Camel archers as UU.

I believe we need to make another UU for Berbers if camel archers become Regional unit. Genitours will eventually become regional units if camel archers can be regional unit.

The Blackguard. An armored spearman who does bonus damage vs cavalry and spearmen. The function is for when you cheaper cavalry just aren’t strong enough you can bring out the unit that stops the enemy horses and the enemy horse stoppers. I’m worried this leads to too well oiled a machine with camel archers, cheap stable units and the unit that comes in when stable units aren’t worth it
