@IvanHCastro Happy new Year, is there any update on this issue? Looks like as mentioned above others are having the same problem with the Microsoft store version of the game.

The issue is only with the 5th scenario or in all of the Sargon of Akkad campaign?

@IvanHCastro is it possible to confirm that this bug will be fixed soon? This has been going on since April 2024, Itâs now 3 confirmed cases of the same issue with the Microsoft Store version of the game. Itâs frustrating to pay for DLC expansions like RoR and not be able to even finish the campaigns we paid for.
Any updates on this @IvanHCastro ?
Todayâs minor update did not fix the issue the same script errors remain
Hi guys!
Sorry for not answering before. We are a bit lost with this issue you are having. As I mentioned, this bug has been fixed in CL 130746, or at least for the majority of people. It is complicated to fix an issue that we can´t reproduce.
Just to be sure, I installed the game (CL 133431) from scratch on a new computer with a new account and I donât receive any âAI script errorâ in the campaign Sargon of Akkad. I tried several times scenarios 1, 2, and 5⌠but I can complete them normally.
I believe you are carrying this issue with the âAI errorâ from older builds, but I don´t know exactly how. When you uninstall and reinstall the game usually the player´s folder remains in your computer, and this issue might be related to it. The playerâs folder location is:
C:\Users\(YOURUSER)\Games\Age of Empires 2 DE\(BUNCH OF NUMBERS)
I need to ask you to copy this folder somewhere (desk for example), you mustn´t delete it, because you will lose your saves, mods, etc. Once you have it safe, delete the folder from the original location and reinstall the game. When the game starts from scratch it will generate a new player´s folder. Letâs test the campaign with a new player´s folder and see if the AI Error is still present.
Once the test is finished, you can copy back the content of your original player´s folder to the new one. That will restore your mods, saves, etc.
Let me know if this works.
@IvanHCastro can you confirm from where did you install the game from a fresh account is it the Microsoft version of the game or steam? The Steam version does not have this issue. Can you provide a Microsoft Store Link to the game version you installed? I have tried your mentioned solution multiple times and this does not fix the issue. After backing up this save folder and deleting it, performing a fresh install and without re-importing the backed up folder the issue remains on all 3 scenarios mentioned.
I have the same problem still after a fresh install and delete saves, with scenario 10, 11, 12 with Egypt in Return of Rome.
As a suggestion, are there any mods at all that will allow us to look at the AI files ourselves to manually change? I guess the files are encrypted to stop piracy and such, but might as well ask!
The only other thing I could say is that if new accounts arenât showing the issue, could it be an account/cloud saving issue? If the save files are backed up to the cloud, would deleting the player folder really do anything? Is the cloud backing up somehow also backing up the old broken AI files?
@IvanHCastro I also tried one further step. I cleared out my Saves user folder. Completely uninstalled the game reinstalled the game from Microsoft store and then cut off network connection to start the game into offline mode. This prevented the game from loading my cloud saves and directly in Sargon Scenario 1: the Chosen one the AI Script Error persists. I think this eliminated that itâs coming from our cloud saves. It really appears that the version has the bug present and as its clear to see by this thread alone that many users here have the same issue.
I am experiencing the same problems. AI error message at the start of certain missions in RoR campaignsâŚbought the game few days back so I shouldnât have any old files on my PC that @IvanHCastro is reffering to. Playing the Xbox store version on Windows 10. Sometimes during the start of the game I experience wierd bug that the game doesnât load up properly. I googled this problem and it seems there are recently problems with the account loading up properly in the Xbox client. Has it been happening for some time? Is it perhaps possible the AI bug appears because the game cannot download some cloud files properly? Just a thoughtâŚpropably nonescence Would be great to solve the issue however. The campaigns are unplayable in this state.
Do you have the AI issue in the same campaigns or any other?
Some of those [Antitoxin01] mentioned in the list up here. I played the Punic Wars campaign - mission 2 had the problem. And I played some of the Greece campaign - I stopped at mission 5. The problem appeared in missions 1,2, 4 and 5. Didnât play anything else so far but looks like the problem is the same. I donât use any mods. Have only the original Definitive Edition (with the Dukes/Lords/India DLCâs included), Return of Rome DLC and the free Graphic pack.
I have just tested every RoR scenario. The issue appeared in:
Unfortunately, I also bought my version via the Microsoft Store and not via Steam.
@IvanHCastro I can confirm I have the exact same to script errors in the scenarios listed by @th3oretiker.
Thanks people for all your help!
I believe I have enough information to investigate this. This issue was reported and fixed already, but apparently, it is not working correctly for the version of the Microsoft Store. It is affecting the same scenarios as before.
Delifenetelly thanks for keep trying and reporting this. We won´t be able to find the issue without your help!
