Return of Rome Discussion

Yes, it would be something like Joan of Arc… a woman who serves as a model of freedom while her country is invaded…

Of course, but the issue is that I don’t know if Britons is a slightly more modern term and Celts is very broad considering that there are also Picts or Celtiberians in Hispania…

Than Iceni? Possibly slightly, but it’s derived from classical Latin ‘Britanni’, which makes it sound appropriate to me. (Although I suppose you might object on the grounds that it has a slightly different meaning in modern English in a non-historical context.) But Iceni is much more specific than Britons.

Yes, and I know some people would at least prefer (or have suggested) separate civs for Britons and Gauls.

I’m pretty sure the name Briton derives from local languages, I’ve heard the name Ynis Prydain (the island of the strongs) used to call Ancient Great Britain, and it’s definitely not Latin nor English. Icenians is definitely too specific, it doesn’t cover the many other tribes such as Brigantes, Damnonii, etc.

I think the Celts could work as an umbrella civ in the first time and be split at a later point, like AoE2 Indians were. Right now Northern Europe is quite empty so I would like to cover as much ground as possible with the first batch of new civs.

That’s plausible. I just went with what the OED said, since I trust it on etymology much more than any other source, and the Latin root was the earliest one mentioned. ‘Ynis Prydain’ is a medieval Welsh name for Great Britain. Welsh Wikipedia seems to claim that the term dates back much further, to 400 BC – but it doesn’t have a reference, and I might be misunderstanding what it says. (I can’t read Welsh, so that doesn’t help )

This is out next week right? Im too lazy to look it up

Correct. Next Tuesday.

for the glory for Rome!

yes but not if you’re from Asia, then it’s already Wednesday when it releases.
The game doesn’t release midnight in your time zone. It will releases noon US Pacific time zone.
So don’t take Tuesday of work for the game to release at 7pm in your time zone or something like that.

Can’t wait for all the posts on Tuesday (or even already on Monday form people in Asia) that ask where the DLC is.

I always forget that time zones are a thing. It releases on the 16th where I am, but I guess it technically releases a day later in the East.

Why does it release at noon Pacific time?

Because that’s where their office is.
Maybe it’s not exactly noon but it’s obvious not 4 am in the morning for them.
They have to be in their offices before they can launch a DLC.

Too pity there is no original campaigns in this dlc. I still hope they will come with the release

Doesnt it just launch at the indicated time in Steam, why do they need to be in office?

I don’t know. That’s how they have done it for all AoE games and DLCs so far.
I’m just talking from experience.
It was always in the evening for me as a European.

Good point, you are right…

You can always wait for the community to port them in one way or another…

What about the camel rider?

Please tell me the size of dlc is 30 GB or 3 GB, I see 3 gb in description it was 30 gb before …
What happen ?

It was an error, it should be 3GB

It says 3.48 GB for me.

OMG that main menu theme.

This makes me even more mad about the fact they never remade the OG Age of Empires main menu theme, but that Rise of Rome remade track is glorious. It’s finally here!!
