ist his a new card? or was it already in the beta?

it allows russian to train hussite wagons in age 2 for 250 w 250 c and 5 pop

This is new this patch. Wasn’t in beta.
Is it just me, or is this new unit kinda underwhelming?
opino lo mismo vale mucho oro y ocupa mucha pop para algo que se muere tan rapido
It’s not just you; it is indeed disappointing, as hardly anyone—or very few players—uses the Hussite Wagon. I believe the unit itself wasn’t well-designed; furthermore, it is far too anachronistic for the AoE III era, which is why it doesn’t appeal to players in the later ages. It might work well in the early ages, but later on, it becomes a niche item or a sort of Medieval relic. The same applies to the Spanish Lancer and the Rodelero; they remain stuck in the Middle Ages, failing to even reflect classic Renaissance attire.
Hussite Wagon: The game’s official unit uses the same assets as the medieval unit from Age of Empires II, so it fails to reflect the late 16th-century Hussite wagon used during the Renaissance era. The later Hussite wagons opened from top to bottom, creating a barrier that allowed arquebusiers and musketeers to fire safely during battle; obviously, this is not the case with the new Hussite wagon unit introduced in the Age of Empires III Baltic DLC. Instead, it uses the old model where arquebusiers were enclosed inside while firing, which is why it fails to impress—it does not reflect Renaissance-era weaponry at all, but rather an older, medieval style.
Spanish Lancer: In Age of Empires III, this cavalry unit shares the same fate as the previous one, reflecting the medieval style of the era of the conquest of Mexico. The Renaissance Spanish lancer unit looked completely different, wearing a Burgonet helmet and a characteristic Ruff (clothing) around the neck to add a more striking decorative touch to the armor.
Rodelero: This Spanish military unit also officially wears medieval attire that is anachronistic for the era in which AoE III takes place. Renaissance-era Spanish Rodeleros—like Lancers—wore Burgonet helmets and adorned their armor with a characteristic Ruff (clothing) around the neck. Curiously, none of this is reflected in the official game; we can only hope that the developers eventually focus on these older military units to equip them with more modern attire as the Industrial and Imperial Ages arrive—I believe that would be fair and equitable.
It’s a Age II mercenary so its not that great but it has its uses. I hosted a comp stomp that had the random luck to be able to make them to try them out and they helped in defending by deflecting away damage from my other troops.
Fortified Wagon are too expensive to train they should reduce their cost from 500 coin each to 400 coin at the very least as well as reduce their population cost from 5 to 4 as well.
Yes, decrease cost a bit and give it some more hp. Tbh i like that russians get them. Suddenly your infantry can tank a lot more damage.
Just a correction about history, war wagons were used on eastern europe in alternative to pike and shot, ottoman and polish called tabor or tabur, while russian called it guliai gorod and it was key for conquest of Siberia and warfare against other european. and still used until line formation in late 17th century. See sandroman history in YouTube for documentary of warfare on this period
but yes i find this unit very underwhelming for his cost. Maybe more deflection, -50,-50 cost and some extra damage to cavalry could be cool and historical.
yes it is. 500 resources. 5 Pop. At its finallity at age 5 with all upgrades it has 400 HP only.
Its boon is that it can hit enemies around it at the same time when deployed. With directional firing.
In Central Asia they were used up to the 19th century cuz it was the best way to deal with nomadic horse archer raiders if you weren’t a nomadic horse archer band yourself.
It was called Rum Dasturi all the way from Anatolia to India.
Never going to happen.
The spanish morion helmet is anachronistic, but its absolutely dominating in popular history and media. This game is not historicaly accurate and “accuracy” will only go as far as its adding to immersion and what people see as “authentic”. Immersion is king and no ammount of history nerds will change that.
Bold to make such a generalizing claim after the tiny amount of games we had since beta/release. People use pikes in imperial age, flying crows, organ guns, landsknechts, age2 cowboys and ofc astronaut explorer skins.
More HP would fix it. Also considering how important those wagon forts were for the russian expansion eastward it’s disapointing that they have less HP than a musk at guard level.
Well, it never hurts to make a suggestion regarding such archaic units for Spain.
I understand that War wagons were still in use during the early part of the Age of Empires III timeframe; however, the way they are depicted does not faithfully reflect the later War wagons used in the 16th and 17th centuries. My argument was never that the unit was inappropriate for the Age of Empires III era; rather, I find the unit model used in the game to be anachronistic and poorly represented, as it depicts a medieval unit rather than a faithful representation of a Renaissance-era unit. Furthermore, I don’t see the point in reusing the exact same model from Age of Empires II—we have to use a bit of common sense here, my friend. I’m simply saying that we’re being shortchanged by the reuse of models from a previous game; the ideal approach would have been to create a completely new War Wagon unit.
I understand you; my complaint isn’t about the unit itself, but simply the model used, as it doesn’t faithfully reflect a Renaissance or colonial unit. Instead, because it uses the same look as in AoE II, it appears to be a medieval unit—which is the reason for my minor complaint or suggestion.
Im not talking about if its apropiate or not, but you argue that its not apealing to players and is not as much used for that reason - and i say, nobody cares
Look, you have your suggestions and I respect them, just as I have mine; so please, show respect if you want to be respected. You argued that the war wagon should have better stats and a reduced deployment or production cost—I didn’t object to that and respected your request. Yet, you are criticizing my proposal for no apparent reason and failing to respect my suggestion. We’re back to square one; let’s just use common sense, my friend.
If you see someone making a request and you aren’t interested, simply don’t comment—period. That’s called respect; just as I respect your arguments and don’t oppose them, you should learn to do the same.
When I said the unit is rarely used, I was speaking in general terms—considering its stats, cost, and visual design. That’s why I commented that the unit was poorly designed; I imagine the developers will eventually address these issues to improve its stats and make it a more viable choice, as many people here have requested.
Don’t worry about what others say; focus on your own comments and show discipline and respect toward others when they speak. the good judge begins at own home.
No need to take it personal. Was just saying that your claims are exaggerated, since you cant possibly have the data to back them after 3 days of playing
Well, regarding the Rodelero, you might like this mod here made by @SealingEar046 :
It changes the rodelero as they looked through the ages - in Age 2, they carry the Adarga, a moorish shield that was also used by the spanish.
In their first upgrade, they equip the swiss pikeman’s round shield (which the swiss funnily never used, they rather used either no shield at all) which is acutally a Rotella
and in their second update, they equip a more beautiful, embossed Rotella.
It also enables the germans to use rodeleros (which were called “Rontartschiere” in German, which translates to "Round targe men) and, as I am currently writing with Sealing about it, the german rodelero’s base-unit shield might some day change to this one:
If now the devs would make them somewhat stronger…
What would happen if we gave it the bandit tag? Would that fix the wagon?
