Setting Textures to medium or high causes game to stutter

Using a 1070ti with latest drives, setting textures to Medium or High blocks the main game thread every time there is a GPU memory usage spike (as shown in the image below) causing the game to ‘freeze’ when said spike occurs. This ‘freeze’ occurs at all times in the game including:

  • Cinematic
  • Main menu
  • Gameplay
  • In-game cinematics.

Game framerate is not an issue even when the ‘freezing’ occurs so it is not a performance problem (or at least not an obvious one).

Setting textures to low still spikes GPU RAM at the same amount and interval without blocking main thread.


Anybody getting the same issues with the 1080p textures or am I taking crazy pills here?
