Sicilians might as well be called Normans

Italians need a Galleass to represent their Venetian component. Not a new civ.

Even though in the background they mentioned the civ also covers Sicily’s Byzantine and Muslim history, I see very few elements outside Norman…

Why not romans can represent papacy Italians cover the lombard kingdoms missing one is venice.

Give the Italians a upgrade to the monk called Bishop or Cardinal. The Italian king could be a Doge or Pope sprite

Easiest thing is to give them multiple wonder variations just like the houses.Current wonder is Genoese so give the missing wonders for papacy venice milan and florence.

This would be interesting. The wonder could enable special units and the skins could evolve accordingly.

Here’s an extremely jank recolor of the Donjon to give an idea of how it could look if they wanted to change the Sicilians to the Normans, with the appropriate architecture change, but without significantly changing the model of the Donjon.

If the Sicilians got re-themed to the Normans, the tech First Crusade wouldn’t fit anymore. I suggest changing it to the following:

Barbican

Cost: 600 wood, 150 gold

Effect: Donjons fire +2 arrows; Gates fire 3 arrows

Barbicans were medieval defenses built next to outer gates of cities or fortifications. This technology references the Norman specialty of defensive structures.

Venetians need to be a civ

Why not? Normans did go in that expedition.

Did they? I thought it was just Sicily that was involved.

Both the Britons and the Sicilians are Norman civilizations.
The former focuses on the Anglo-Normans, presenting the Normans in Britain.
The latter focuses on the Sicilian-Normans, presenting the Normans in Sicily.
Since the two civilizations were all Normans, no one can be directly named Normans.
My guess.

I don’t disagree, but the Britons would be a bad choice to represent the Normans in the Hastings scenario, just like the Franks are. The Sicilians are not a good choice either. Having an actual civ named Normans would allow for more accurate representation in campaigns, especially since the Sicilians are used, with changed architecture, as a placeholder for the Normans in other campaigns.

Bohemond I of Antioch (c. 1054 – 5 or 7 March 1111),[1] also known as Bohemond of Taranto or Bohemond of Hauteville , was the prince of Taranto from 1089 to 1111 and the prince of Antioch from 1098 to 1111.[2] He was a leader of the First Crusade, leading a contingent of Normans on the quest eastward. Knowledgable about the Byzantine Empire through earlier campaigns with his father, he was the most experienced military leader of the crusade

Franks are the best representation of normans for the hastings battle as they are vikings who settled in normandy. You cant use vikings as harold is viking goths is the closest thing to saxons so it leaves out only franks for normans.

Several French and Norman lords (outside of the Hautevilles) were leaders on the First Crusade. In fact, William the Conqueror’s eldest son, Robert Curthose, the Duke of Normandy, participated. Godfrey and Baldwin, who would become the first two kings of Jerusalem, were from Boulogne in Flanders.

If they were going to redesign the civ as reflective of the high middle ages, there would be some grounds for them to be the only civ to have christian and islamic troops. One French chronicler remarked that Palermo in the 12th century was cogoverned by Muslim, Jewish and Christian officials and nobles under a Norman king
