*Sigh* New DLC on the horizon

We were literally shown a tangut UU and tangut castle in an official blog post and we somehow didn’t get tanguts.

So seems to me theorizing based on fauna is pointless.

It seems a little…Spartan.

Tbh I like it a bit morevthan the scrapped Athenian one

Eh. It seems kind of lopsided to me. Then again, the Bulgarian Castle, which I like, is pretty similar.

bring out new DLC while leaving game broken with unfair unit balancing, elephants costing only 1 pop and are uncounterable bc of pop limitations, ships outrange land units, also broken

Missing chance to add the Scythians in this DLC by the devs

I like how rustic is is, we have gotten many overtly decorated castles as of late

That’s fair. I tend to gravitate towards simpler architectural styles myself, both in real life and in the game.

Yeah, that’s true. Still, I think the scrapped Athenian Fort is a clever distillation of multiple elements of the Acropolis.

The DLC adds Elephants that cost 2 population. Maybe it’s a test to see if it works well before adding it to the main game.

Ship rework is also being tested soon, but no idea if that changed the range. You are referring to Elite Cannon Galleons?

The next DLC which already registered I hope will be a normal medieval DLC. It might be related to the naval changes. The Alexander DLC is fun to play though, i liked the campaign so far!

I dislike this. I think unit must cost only 1 population space in this game . For the puru elephant it seem that he is not much better than the war elephant and the battle elephant. I prefer that they increase is cost than he cost more of 1 population space.

Spartan castle skin

Everyone expected that the athenian castle will receive this skin, but I think it’s better than the spartan receive the new skin because many greek player in campaign are played by the athenian civilization and the unused athenian castle skin look too much athenian in most scenarios.

Maybe the unused athenian castle skin can become a scenario editor object ?

The spartan castle are very good : rustic, perfect for an austere spartan civilization.

Chronicles Alexander

Very good DLC ! The only two bad things are that the elite unique units doesn’t receive unique skins and the trade cart still use the western european skin despite there is a better trade cart skin in return of rome.

I agree I also dislike elephants costing 2 pop. I agree with everything else too.

Have you checked the Puru fort emplacements upgrades? Both defensive and offensive emplacements?

I like how the fort’s visuals change with each upgrade. I think giving all upgrades a visual aspect helps a lot in a RTS game, both for military and non-military units, as well as buildings.

I never understood why AoE2 players are so much against making units cost more then 1 population, especially in the case of elephants. I see why it’s annoying when every military unit is 2+ population like AoM or if half of the units are 2+ population like AoE3. But just making Elephants 2 population would allow to remove the crazy amounts of bonus damage from the spearman line. (I like the idea of making the Spearman Line 0.5 population too. That would allow them to generally have less crazy bonus damage.)

I feel like the biggest reason for it is simply that other games in the series do it differently and therefor it’s bad. I have seen this argument brought against every single feature that was added in a later game of the series.

I like the use of population as a resource too. I think add this to elephants, siege and ships will be good for the game. I can’t believe how we accept the pop use for a building but not for a unit.

I would prefer if ships had their own population independent of land units tbh.

I have never thought about this, what do you suggest? How would you control the ships pop?

Give ships their own population limit that is independent of land units. A completely separate value. All ship count into it including fishing ships. You increase the limit by building docks (10 each).

The max limit should maybe be half of the land limit so 100 by default.

Though I also like the idea of having a separate limit for economic and military units but that’s a whole different story and also something that can’t really be added to an existing game.

It would be nice if they added the scrapped Athenian Fort in some form, even as a pure eye candy object without destruction animation.

Regarding the new Mangonel line design, AoE Wiki editor Nanomat wrote that it is based on a fictitious design called Petraria Arcatinus, and that it might have been inspired by the following figurine set by First Legion:
