Skins and Homecity items: Income producting Idea

Good morning,

Like everyone else I am an avid Age of empires 3 player. I have played back since the original game many years ago. I remember losing matches because someone answered the phone and kicked me off the internet.

Anyway, this game is now a free to play option and I know many of us would like it to receive much more attention. The release of the game was ill timed and it never really got the recognition it deserved. As such it is nice to see Microsoft taking an interest in it.

Now I know we want the game to have a long life and want to do things that breathe more into the game. That is why I make the following proposal:

Proposal:

Have an ingame store that would allow individuals to purchase Skins and home city effects. Even special effects ingame should be purchasable. If Microsoft does not have the manpower why not allow the community the ability to create the assets and sell them. Microsoft can take a portion of the profit and maybe even have a unique skin for those that contribute!

Thank you everyone for reading my wall of text.

that is a nice idea, I like it

This is something that a lot of games do (MTX) and frankly, I think it’s a cancer on gaming. I, too, am an older gamer, so I remember when you bought a game and got to actually own a copy of it - a physical copy, as well as full access to the game files. MTX is a way of gating content from players to nickle and dime them out of more money than the price of the base game.

If they want more money for me, do a proper expansion (DLC) and I’ll pay for it if the content’s good. Don’t give me half the game and then gate all the good art behind another credit card purchase. All that does is try to milk a captive audience out of more money. I understand that it’s lucrative. So is mobile gaming where they tokenize everything and make you pay to play like it’s a digital slot machine. None of that is good for the customer or the video game industry more broadly and we should speak up against it.
