Small army and population

Hi ,

I like alot this game, i never played AOM before in my life.
Only problem for me is about population :frowning:
I play greec and i play lot a with cavalery (Hippeus). They cost 3 population.

So in middle game, if i got arround 75 villagers, and i all in on 1 town center , i can only do 33 cav …
Why the game is forcing us to make so small army, why block the population cap to 175 without town center… ?

I mean , the population space should be by default 275 ( 10 more houses) if you want correct army.
Am i the only one to feel that?

One of the most important parts of AoM is the fact that you usually always have to take map control. I used to despise the way the tc system worked (because they seemed pretty expensive compared to AoE2), but now I can see that taking town centers is worth it, regardless of what strategy you go for. If players are able to build more houses, they could just sit back and boom with little punishment.

It is to make TCs actually worth taking, while discouraging turtling

Look at the mod section. The 2x House Limit mod is one of the most popular ones for a reason.
You are not the only one, there are multiple threads about this topic here too.

AoM Retold POPULATION PROBLEM

Army Size (POPULATION problem)

I do not think 175 pop is low without extra town centres.

75 villagers when you have 175 pop mean you are playing a defence economy basically.

Depends on your civ and gods, use myth units and heroes, with some human units and cavalries to protect myth units and take down catapults, to protect your home with defence buildings, and set troop trainings to auto. After that, send a few catapults outside to pin-pointly destroy castles, town centres and markets, and capture scattered town centres to increase your pop limit further.

Oh, one more thing, if you are playing a skirmish with that kind of economy, meaning you should focus on defence and enter the Wonder Age first.

I agree with my peers that you can’t randomly increase the number of houses due to balance issues. However, there should be some way to increase the number of houses in the late game, either automatically upon reaching Age 4 or through an upgrade.

I hope a change like that comes soon. The population issue wouldn’t be a problem if this were a new game (like an AoM 2). The challenge with making these kinds of changes to existing games is that there is always a pre-existing community attached to each of its features (including the bad ones).

I’m a big fan of AoMs pop system with limited houses and settlements as important strategic points to claim. But i guess extra houses at Age4 (or maybe wonder age) would be a fun addition to the late game.
