(Solved) Framerate skipping

Not sure if this is related to a driver update or not, but was experiencing issues today that were solved by disabling NVIDIA GeForce overlays.

GAME BUILD:
101.101.50700.0 7006804

GAME PLATFORM:
Steam

OPERATING SYSTEM:
Windows 10 64 bit 19043

GPU:
RTX 2070 MaxQ, Driver Version 471.41

ISSUE EXPERIENCED:
Game is choppy - freezing and starting over and over again. Disabling “In Game Overlay” in GeForce Experience solves the issue.

Frequency:
100%** of the time / matches I play (ALWAYS)

REPRODUCTION STEPS:
Here’s the steps to reproduce the issue:

  1. Enable GeForce In-Game Overlay
  2. Launch AOE2
  3. Stuttering will be noticeable in the menu, but more apparent when in game.

SOLUTION STEPS:

  1. Open GeForce In-Game Overlay
  2. Go to settings (cogwheel, top right)
  3. Uncheck the checkbox labelled “Enable in-game overlay”
