Sometimes resources on animals and trees are not showed.

Reproduction steps:

  1. Task a villager to gather a resource
  2. Wait until it starts gathering. The gathering speed “1.4/s” should show up in the lower left panel.
  3. While this text is visible. Kill the villager using delete.

This will cause the resources to disappear when clicking tree’s, goldmines, huntable food, etc., until a villager or gathering unit is selected that shows the gathering speed. Then the correct behavior gets restored.
