Issue: Game’s sound quality degrades when using earbuds

Ever since I bought this game, it keeps having problems with my wireless earbuds. Everytime I use earbuds, the sound quality drops to potato levels. The sound quality works perfectly fine with earphones directly attacted to the computer, and I’ve never had this problem with other games before. AOM Retold is first game I’ve ever played to have this problem with the earbuds.

Trigger Event:

Everytime I use wireless earbuds, the game’s sound quality takes a nosedive.

Repro Steps:

  1. Play the game.
  2. Use wireless earbuds and check for the sound quality.
  3. Compare it to earphones that directly attach to the computer.

I had this issue as well, but it turns out that it’s not an issue with AoM at all, rather it’s just the way Bluetooth works. Bluetooth earbuds with mic will switch into a low quality mode whenever you open an app that uses the earbud mic. There are workarounds depending on your earbuds. Search the internet for things like “disable mic on bluetooth earbuds” and stuff like that and you will find discussions about it.
