Hi all,
As I was writing another post, was thinking of how hand infantry gets clustered and destroyed by artillery, cover mode overs some ranged/artillery resistance at the heavy cost of movement speed. While ranged have the stagger mode a spreed a part formation.
Although I understand some stances act as quasi actives, to be used temporary in specific moments, as trample for cav, cover mode for hand infantry both are underwhelming.
Cover Mode
Ideally if ranged/artillery fire in volley we could micro the mode to match the attacks, but it isn’t like that usually. Also unlike other games most units die easily and most people would be unable to micro them, plus by the setting of the game most focused on either cavalry or ranged gunpowder as in history hand infantry gets less used.
Trample on the other hand, sounds more viable in paper however the problem comes from the hitpoint price. Dont know to what extent some of these modes were proto actives of abilities, as the original had few that i remember mostly in explorers.
Suggestion
- Most simple thing but controversial, reduce the movement speed/hitpoint price to a 5% or up to 10% of the unit, so if a unit has 5 move speed it doesn’t end having 2.25
- OR get rid of the cover mode and replace it with stagger mode for hand infantry and add it to melee cavalry.
- OR convert them in active abilties either big buttons as sweedish caroleans or active/passive small ones as winged usars have.
As anything such changes would need testing, I’m quite sure most here in the community me included, we are open to test stuff out and tell, if its working or not, how to improve it or change it.
