Huh ? if we didnt spend our money on the DLC’s, we might never had that discussion about the Romans. SO TAKE MY MONEY I WANT ROOOOOMMMMMMAAAANS
After 610 would you say they were Greeks or Romans both linguistically and culture wise?
You are right. And I hope that Romans, Greeks, Egyptians … will survive! Better in AOEDE2
Byzantine populace was always speaking Greek, nobody was speaking Latin in the east ever, besides some Latin speaking emperors and their court.
Do you think that the populace suddenly started speaking another language just because of an administration decree in 610? Or the vice versa, that the decree was the outcome of the actual speaking language of the populace?
Latin as the admin language up to 610, was just something Byzantines inherited from the continuity of the state.
I like to have Romans (of the 5th century) as a regular civ. in aoe2, because with the division of the Empire after the death of Theodosius I in 395, they were de facto their own thing, with their own administration in Rome/Mediolanum/Ravenna.
I think what he and many here would prefer is not having the Romans added to the game. The two medieval evolutions of the Romans are already present in the form of the Byzantines and Italians; there was no need for this addition. While I’m not as disappointed as others, I think their point makes sense.
you are talking about official language, but the people spoke a wide variety of languages in the roman empire (western and eastern). among others like Aramaic, Germanic, Celtic languages most people in the west spoke latin and most in the east spoke greek even before the empires separated. Greek was the lingua franca in the eastern mediteranean ever since Alexander conquered most of it
Thats the thing, I dont think there is space to split the same nations into multiple smaller civs. And even if there was the rest of civs should get priority.
Even with 20 or even 30 more civs the medieval wprld wouldnt be fully covered, whats the point of having a shortlasting Roman civ when the west and east were very very similar (in fact they were the same civilization and the same nation imo) and we already have Byzantines?
