Stop turning your games into Frankensteins monsters

They are saying it to make fun of the Three Kingdoms DLC.

Not all of them.

Funny you wrote this. I know you’re not being serious, but I was about to write (and then saw your post) that I think it would be cool if they brought some AoE3 civs into the AoE2:DE fray… minus all the cards, city shipments, build limits, trains, trade posts, explorer unit, audio, and other non-AoE2 that turned many AoE2 fans off of AoE3. Or if there are civs that aren’t in AoE3 but are from that era, those could just be built as new civs for AoE2, too

Just treat them as if they were new AoE2 civs to be added into the AoE2 universe (i.e., AoE2 engine, AoE2 aesthetic, AoE2 vibe, resource dropoffs), with their own unique units, civ bonuses, stats, sounds, and such. Don’t really need any actual assets from AoE3; just envisioning civs from that era in AoE2.

A Chronicles with several of the AoE3 civs would be cool, for example, imo. It was done to an extent with AoE1 I think, so doing so for AoE3 doesn’t seem too farfetched to me, considering development has stopped on AoE3:DE.

It has never been the civs that I don’t like about AoE3. It’s the engine, the gameplay mechanics, animations, audio, and other things inherent to the actual AoE3 game that I don’t care for. So, having those civs in the AoE2 engine and being treated in a typical AoE2 fashion would work for me.

What do others think? I don’t think it needs to be done “next”… but, you know, sometime within like 4-5 years, maybe? AoE3 players can keep enjoying AoE3:DE since that exists. This would just be a way to bring some AoE3 civ flavor into the AoE2 engine

The Korean scenario is pretty late in the AoE2 timeline so what’s a century? I’ve always wanted to play AoE3 with AoE2 graphics because it ages better and I dig it even during the pre-HD era. If we can go 2 centuries before the AoE2 era why not two centuries after? This is also the same company that changed everything from unique castles, regional units and now timeline and factions.

A moderate extension into maybe the Thirty Years War would be more acceptable.

But I’d of course prefer updating AOE3 or making a new game for it.

Having your game end in the middle of the 80 years war nd the Fall of Ming is a bit weird tbh

Then maybe push it a little further to the end Ming.

I think somewhere around 1650-1700 is a good splitting point where major changes in warfare took place: all-purpose infantry arose, traditional heavy cavalry declined, firepower became more important.

But this extension will also require a universal update to firearms and artillery because the current techtree really lacks them. So it’s hard.

This current discussion is ironic, given the thread.

We’re shifting from what they should do to what they could do…

Buuuuut since Sengoku Japan is already covered by the game, I guess 17th warfare can also be accommodated. As long as it’s not going into the regime of line infantry which should 100% belong to AOE3.

Hey WE here I have come up with a brilliant idea:

Make a new RTS game about the entire human history. Then you’re free to make DLC focusing on whatever timeframe and setting you feel profitable.

I’m serious. That would be an investment from which you can harvest for many many years.

Just make a Rise of Nations 2

Rise of Nations 2 would have been better than Rise of Legends.

It’s a bit of an angry “rant”, but the points are evident and valid. The immense amount of likes this thread got proves it. Bumping it is necessary

This. I would have absolutely no problem with them reskinning the other aoe games with aoe2 mechanics. If this keeps them out of the aoe2 timeline then I’m all for it.

They might fear any of their products would not sell without an “AOE2” slapped on it

True but the other games aren’t selling that well compared aoe2 anyway. Aoe1 is already (kind of) part of aoe2 which ended up splitting its fanbase. And aoe3 is no longer receiving updates so will probably eventually fall off the radar. I have no interest in either of these games as they are, but I would definitely buy aoe2 mechanics versions of both games.
