Suggestion: Retreat Formation

Currently, retreating is extremely slow and clunky. Units will try to create a formation and then move at the slowest unit’s speed… to save themselves. Of course what usually happens is that most of them are picked off and die.

The game lacks a formation/option that allows units to move at their maximum speed, regardless of the other units in the group, and without traveling in formation. They could just end in a default formation at the final destination. Please consider adding this.

Yeah I would make it something like… CTRL+Right click would be a retreat move mode so we can access it fast and so the units would be each using its own max speed.

They’re slow and clunky cos of the snare mechanic

I don’t mean those cases. Even the ones not getting attacked are often moving towards the enemy to get in formation and then slowly start to move away.

The thing is I think this is impossible to fix. The thing that you have mentioned is one of the most common turn off reasons for casuals. No one likes it when they order their army to retreat and their army first creates a parading formation and proceeds to move as it is a ceremony.

It seems like there is a technical reason why this can’t be implemented. Non the less the pathing in the game is super annoying and should be fixed as soon as possible.

Currently its a bug. Before it wasent the case. There was an exploit where you took advantage of that units pushing into each other to build up speed and basically allows you to outrun counters.

It would be good to have a “no formation” option so every units moved by itself which does exist in other RTS.

In Dawn of War 1 and 2, there’s a retreat button that actually gives you a boost and increases your defense against ranged damage. It’s easy to implement. You just have to want it.
