Support for an Elo Reset or seasonal style

As a new player I’ve seen the pros play on Twitch/YouTube and also I’ve watched 1500’ish elo players and I play in the low elo bracket <500. The one thing I notice throughout the elo range is that everyone is really good.

I play people with who have thousands of games to their names and they are 3-4+ TC booming, early feudal pressure etc and I think to myself, these players don’t look that much different to players at elo 1500+. However, the problem seems to be that everyone is stuck in their own bracket and you are very unlikely to see a great amount of movement unless you are winning every game for a long time.

AoEII is obviously a game with a long history and the records people have achieved shouldn’t be forgotten. However, I think the game would feel more rewarding, even more open to newer players if there was a full elo reset or, in my opinion, a monthly leaderboard which resets when the new map pool is released. This seasonal type of reset is very common in modern games and I think AoEII would also benefit from it.

I disagree it because pro and semi pro would regularly get against noob players. But it would be good to be able to compete against a wider elo range of players. More random maps also bring us a variety of matches.

Why would you want to play unbalanced games? No, this is not a good idea

If I’m reading this right you are saying that 500 Elo players are as good as 1500 Elo players… I don’t know what to say but to open your eyes or stop trolling

I wouldn’t fully agree with the idea of resetting 1v1 Elo. It’s clear that any player who has around 200 Elo more than their opponent will likely win 90% of the time.

However, for team games, it’s a different story. When playing with random teammates, the outcome of the game often doesn’t depend solely on your individual performance.

For team games, I think there could be a valid argument for resetting Elo to 1000 every once in a while, to give everyone a fresh start and prevent stagnation. This could pose a slight problem by skewing the average Elo upward from 1000, though.
