population should be per team not per player.
if team pop is set to 800 in a 4vs4, each player would get 200 pop. If one player drops in a team, the remaining players would then have (800÷3) 266 pop.
That way the match isnt immidiatly ruined when a player disconnects. How has this never been adressed?!?

No. Losing a player should have consequences for a team. The fact that some people drop out for no reason is definitely annoying but this is not the way to address it.

I’d just like to point out that OP has (evidently) been accused of being an alt of a former troll. Take everything he says with a grain of salt.

It is not a good idea for now because I am sure people will abuse it.
Let’s say 2 pros and 2 noobs in a team, 2 noobs quit and 2 pros got 400 pop for each,
or only keep the player who got the best units in late game so he can spam 800 something

Why do people think this is a troll. I dont think it is a bad idea that after a resign the other players get a part of his pop. It is really annoying if a player quits early and the TG ends for that reason. This seems to me a reasonable fix.

I could see an argument for getting control over any remaining units, resources and buildings a resigned player has but not the player’s pop space. It is way too exploitable as has already been pointed out.

The problem is that it could be beneficial if a weak player resigns, so that the strong players get more pop space. But defeating one player of the other team should never be a disadvantage.
But players sould be able to reconnect to a game, and should not be able to play a new game before they are really defeated in the old game.
The other players should also be able to control the disconnected players units/buidlings while he is disconnected.
how is this pop mechanic been broken since release?! needs urgent fix
I’m not sure if you are a troll, or just a new player with zero idea on how this game works
He is a troll who is evading a pervious ban.
