Technical Support Request – Persian Localization, RTL Font and Full Voice-Over Mod for Age of Empires IV

Dear Age of Empires IV Support and Development Team,

I am working on a community-made Persian (Farsi) localization project for Age of Empires IV, with the goal of making the game accessible to Persian-speaking players.

I have translated a large portion of the game’s text into Persian, including:

  • Main menu and user interface text
  • In-game text and tooltips
  • Unit, building and technology names and descriptions
  • Campaign and mission text
  • Objectives and subtitles
  • Other visible text throughout the game

I have also prepared and modified Persian-compatible fonts to properly support the Persian script, including connected Persian characters and right-to-left text requirements.

In addition to the text localization, I have also worked on Persian voice-over localization. I have translated and dubbed the game’s videos/cinematics and relevant audio/dialogue into Persian.

My intention is to release this project as a community-made Persian localization/voice-over mod, ideally through the official Age of Empires IV modding system, and make it freely available to Persian-speaking players.

However, I have encountered a technical problem with the Age of Empires IV Content Editor.

I created the mod using the official Age of Empires IV Content Editor, but I have noticed two major issues:

  1. Persian/Farsi does not appear to be supported as a localization language/locale in the Content Editor or the game.

  2. Even when I configure the project using English as the base language and enable the mod in Age of Empires IV, the changes do not appear in-game. The game continues to display the original English text, despite the mod being enabled.

Because I have already prepared a substantial amount of translated content, I would like to understand the correct and officially supported way to implement this type of localization.

Could you please advise me on the following?

  • Is it possible to create a custom Persian/Farsi localization for Age of Empires IV using the Content Editor?
  • Is there an officially supported method for adding a new locale that is not currently listed in the game?
  • If Persian cannot be added as a new locale, is there a recommended way to use an existing locale as a base and replace its localization data with Persian?
  • How should RTL languages such as Persian be handled by the game’s UI and localization system?
  • Is there a supported method for replacing or overriding the game’s fonts with a Persian-compatible font?
  • What is the correct folder/file structure for a localization mod so that the game actually loads the modified localization data?
  • Are there any additional steps required to make localization changes take effect when the mod is enabled?
  • Is there a supported method for replacing campaign/cinematic subtitles?
  • Can a mod officially replace or override video/audio assets for Persian dubbing?
  • Are there any limitations or restrictions regarding distributing a community-made Persian localization and voice-over mod through the official mod system?

If necessary, I would be happy to provide the Content Editor project, sample localization files, screenshots, or a small test version of the mod so that the technical issue can be investigated.

I would greatly appreciate any technical documentation, recommended workflow, example project, or guidance from the development/modding team.

This is intended as a non-commercial community project to allow Persian-speaking players around the world to experience Age of Empires IV in their own language.

Thank you very much for your time and for supporting the Age of Empires IV modding community.

Kind regards,

F.A
