As we all probably known, since the team games elo system was changed, with the goal that there are no more “farmers”, the score in each game works exactly the same as 1v1: the system compares your individual elo with the team average.
This brings up three problems:
-
You can lose up like 30 points for one game that was probably unwinnable. For example, if you’re a 2k elo player and you team-up with three 1k players, you can get a game vs 1.8k average team. This looks like a really hard game considering your teammates are far below from the opponents level. But since you are 200 points above, the system interprets that you lost a 1v1 against 200 elo lower player, so you can lose a lot of points for losing an unwinnable game. It sounds a bit unfair. This happens usually when you’re above 17++ elo, considering if you are above 1700 there’s more probabilities you get a match vs a team whose elo average is lower than yours.
-
The matchmaking: taking into account that if you are above 1700 you almost always lose many points for each lost game, in the same way that if you are below 1500 you rise very quickly, we have players with a lot difference level in similar elo: just low elo ones go up fast, high elo ones go down fast. So you can literally be a 1700 1v1 player and have the same tg elo than Hera or TheViper or some of the best players in the world. It means unbalanced games sometimes.
-
There’s no more highest elo. If you check your highest elo in your profile, it shows your highest elo from the previous system. The problem with this is we can’t use the tg elo for tournaments, where usually we use average between the current and the maximum elo reached. For example, my highest elo in this system is 1870 (approximately), but my profile in dashboard and aoe2.insights shows 2995 (my highest in the previous system).
I think it’s time to fix this, so we can back to use the team-games elo seriously, for example consider it for tournaments seeding.
My suggestions are:
- For example, I think there could be a limitation on the amount of points awarded per game. I mean: keep this 1v1 system but with a points limitation, so we don’t lose 30 points per game when playing with lower-rated teammates.
If I remember correctly, in voobly it was like:
4v4 = 3/4 points per game
3v3 = 7/8 points
2v2 = 10/11 points
1v1 = 15 points
Is not probably the best solution, just an idea to improve a bit the experience on playing ranked team-games.
- If it is possible: correct the highest rating, deleting the data from the previous system and showing our maximum elo with the current system, then we can use it for tournaments instead of making tg tournaments seeds with 1v1 elo like everyone is doing nowadays.
Hope we see an updated elo system for team-games soon.
