No problem, yes I have seen those too.
The only things I would change about those would be for the American civs to replace Xbow and Arbalest with some other bow varient as those are not authentic.
And also the only Middle Eastern civ with Paladin is Persians and they already have the Savar. The curent Paladin still looks too European.
Honestly I hope people like you who actually make quality content can somehow get a bit more influence with the FE developers and they take on board your content. Do you have any idea if they even see the stuff you make?
They are using bows if you look closely, the pose is just a bit awkward (the bows are always drawn) to keep the silhouette intact
Hmmm I see… the pose seems awkward, I am curious what the animation looks like… but in any case, these are a good demonstration that regional units could be made to fit the game and still be readable and if they are done by the professionals at FE they could do an even better job.
They could have my money right now but they choose not to. Anyways I really like the subtle changes. For me I need every civilization to get their own castles, monasteries, monks, Slavs to Rus, Persian architecture change, Thai civilization and lastly buildable bridges that ships can go under.
I did not buy a single game, dlc, a ps5 this year. AoE2 can have my money.
The regional aspects of the units should become a priority in the future since the more civilizations they add, the more monotonous the game becomes because the lack of cultural elements which make each civilization something unique and original is increasingly evident, the game should be fun not monotonous, the developers should get rid of the fear of innovating in Age of Empires 2, I know it is their holy grail and that is why they treat it as something untouchable but the truth is that there comes a time in the life of every video game in which one must transcend and evolve so as not to remain stuck in the same thing as always.
I’ve just published a thread here talking about old civs feeling to standard and monotnous compared to new ones.
I think this is all very well articulated. I think AOE2 in a way re-wrote the rules of what video games are and can be. I mean before this it was unheard of for a 20 something year old game to continue to get new content, re-releases, new mechanics and so on. We are really in uncharted territory here. Video games are not just some relic of the past that gets released once and forever remains as a static artifact of a bygone era. Games such as AOE2 and indeed many modern games since are living evolving entities and are expected to stay relevant to the times as much as possible. The lack of unit diversity is really one of those things of the past that doesn’t need to continue being part of the game due to some misplaced sense of being faithful to some vision of the original creators. We can’t really even ascertain how much of their vision was a result of creative choice or technical restraints. Either way we don’t need to adhere to it blindly. Even archaic religions get reformed over time. No reason why AOE2 can’t.
Guys, as a mod connoisseur (with near every civ a unique architecture and unit line), i can tell you this: this game gets MUCH more interesting, especially during campaigns.
The game is made to allow nearly ANY unit OR building a unique look, even DE. Even more, you can mod scenario assets into regular buildings, like giving mongols the round stone shrine as temple. Ypu can even mix styles, like eg giving turks oriental architecture during I-III and having them switch to mediterranean in IV. You can even have different monasteries each age.
So the reason we don’t have this is… devs don’t want to^^
Yes, I think that when they stop releasing civs DLCs, they will start releasing optional regional skin DLCs… and so on to infinity and beyond, until they stop giving content to AoE 2 DE…
I hope this is the case because in truth one of the reasons why I no longer play AOE II DE so often is due to the lack of content of regional units and new building architectures, it is not good to wait for a new expansion to come out to return to touch the game, the games should be fun all the time not only when there are new features, AOE IV is played a lot because it has unique units and mechanics and that in a way motivates players to continue giving the opportunity to play with it. every day
Of course, now that the games are “games as a service” the devs need to continue adding content, that’s why AoE 2 DE and AoMR/AoE 3 DE will continue receiving content…
Again if they can waste time making those mememods for the events, why not real mods for scenario editor fellows.
They don’t even post silly event mods nowadays.
