The data is in: less than half of team matches are actually played, need to punish quitters

for the last 100 team matches i got, i’ve tallied how many end in each way. here are the tallies:

  • 46 good game (just meaning that it was played until a victor was reasonably clear)
  • 7 fail to join lobby (i distinguish this from ‘quit at lobby’ by whether i never actually got to see the lobby screen. i’m not sure if these are technical issues or quitters)
  • 25 quit at lobby (game showed lobby screen and then booted me back to matchmaking; i assume that these are people closing the game when they see it’s a map they don’t like)
  • 3 fail to load (the countdown finished, but the game was stuck loading for several minutes, so i had to kill it)
  • 1 disconnect immediately after start
  • 5 quit immediately (first few seconds)
  • 6 quit in late dark age
  • 2 quit in early feudal
  • 2 quit in castle (not behind)
  • 2 game crash in castle (mine)
  • 1 quit in imp as soon as fighting started (arena; i specify otherwise ‘quit in imp’ wouldn’t sound like an early quit)

i always queue for 2v2, 3v3, and 4v4 at the same time, so these stats represent all. most are ranked, some RM, some EW, a few unranked. my 1v1 RM elo is ~1500.

I have been enjoying the gsme alot more ever since I got the courage to 1v1 ranked queue and got the hang of it after a few gamesc(I only play EW)

Way less issues with drops, quitters, teammates losing before you can do anything. Also I feel like solo games are more balance and my favourite civ portoguese is way better in 1v1 than teamgames.

Mate, obviously I play 1v1, both RM and EW. That doesn’t make the issues with team games any less valid to complain about.

Never claimed the issue isn’t valid

I’ve not kept a tally. I’d say maybe 1 in 10 games somebody quits for literally no reason. Not attacked or such.

I sit between 1200-1400 team ELO, currently 1343.

I wish punishment for quitters was harsher. Especially so for games that have started.
