The decline of AOE 2 DE

Well its their perspective. And mostly its true, but it might not always have the same effect on lower elo players like me. But this time it does. I feel it too in MP.

Yes they are easier to get to bombard cannons, that are even more resilient, with wider spread and with greater range.

You can, probably, if you play Easy difficulty. I play Moderate usually. Fairly chill games wete usually pretty possible on Moderate 365 days ago. Even vs. 2 AI. A simple castle was quite an effective deterrent 365 days ago vs. Moderate AI. What did that lead to? Chill games. Now post-patches that dioes not work as a strat at all. Even if you drop like 3 castles, against just one AI you could easily be doomed. Turtling in a castle/tower sense is pretty impossible now vs. 2 AI. That’s all I was saying

Were the Moderate AI a bit dumb with castles and towers before? Yeah. They still are to an extent. But that’s what higher difficulties are for. And I think the Moderate AI got too good

Maybe they amped up the AI behaviors below Moderate so they’re not completely pointless now like they were before. I will try. Doesn’t help if it wasn’t mentioned in the patch notes

I can’t totally relate as i find extreme AI quite easy to beat. But i know that AI does much better decisions than it did before. AI has problems with losing units left and right, but has the advantage over player in the late game, when you can’t control all units at the same time, but it can.

I’ll try Extreme sometime, as maybe it is easier than Moderate at letting you turtle. As with everyone else, though, I think you are missing my point and are unwilling to do the use case test scenario I laid out. I bet I can beat Extreme, too, but, again, that’s not my question or point.

  1. Sneaky +1 or -1 in armour class (edit, although I believe they have improved the situation in the latest balance patch), which makes it difficult to understand where the damage ends up. Or exceptions in some units, such as why do Condottieri not have bonus damage against Eagles? No one knows.

They should make a patch to make things more consistent, and why not add some sort of in-game booklet on armour classes as well.

To be honest, moving Shu, Wei, and Wu would remove a lot of strange elements from the base game.

True they can have a own tab for the campaign and can be played in ranked just like now will fix many concerns.Heck add some more factions like yellow turbans so the story feels more complete.

All valid points. I agree.

Of course, Ragnarok from AoM aka Flemish Revolution still remanis but perhaps the developers are beginning to give up on that front too

A mechanic implemented on Age of Empires III already!

Well, AoM came out three years earlier, I think. And by the way, hardcore AoE2 fans don’t like AoE3 (also for reasons like that).

Exactly the same for us the III community. We think II gameplay is plain boring, slow and lacks strategy deep-thinking at the core!

Well aoe3 is kinda dead while Aom is getting content.

I dont personally mind mechanics getting ported from one game to the other.A romanian civi with vampire inspired things is not bad idea.

vampires in aoe2? now i’ve heard everything

This could be good actually. As long is not making AoE II a Munster family game its ok I mean
And Age of Empires III is not dead, is just abandoned by the company. We the community still play, support, and enjoy it

there is a old school mod for the cd version called age of vampires.

i think as a mod it’s fine. we have GoT, dinosaur and magic mods. Having a historical civ based on fantasy creatures is utterly stupid.

3K already has magical elements right?Aura effects doge shields are kinda magical too.

A vampire unit who can immobilize the unit and covert is already a hidden ship type ingame and something like a warewolf who will upgrades/swap from a villager is not that bad.

Vampire can convert and fight at meele like a swgb sith.has meele armor but weak vs ranged attacks.

Warewolf can switch from a villager individually like a flemish militia who will attack faster like a temple guard when in combat.has tons of pierce armor and maybe charge at the enemy.

yeah, and those are the worst parts of the game

Man with those ideas you are making Age of Empires II not Age of Empires II anymore
Just an RTS potpourri game
