The developers chose the path of turning the game into a garbage

They do have multipliers (except sc2 which has flat damage numbers) but their multipliers are fractional, meaning counters work by reducing damage taken, not increasing damage done.

the stakes are much lower here - AOM was never the popular game of the franchise.

ranged units will always be better in mass (this is a fact of reality - very difficult to balance out), but the game is far from archer vs archer battles.

How can you explain that Hades is the most popular god among players? Was he well advertised? Or do most people worship Hades in reality, so they play as him in the game? In team games, Hades, unlike all other gods, is present in every game, and sometimes several Hades in one game.

Yeah, the game looks like archers vs archers now.

Well it is a defensive god that allows you to turtle in a base and force your opponent to be the one to take the initiative on you. Its noob friendly and not locked behind a dlc. Specially judging from low player team games that take a while to get going, having a late game civ that promotes turtling is an easy choice for people.

When you move up the ladder it begins to shift to Odin or Poseidon because of their raiding impact and games having a faster pace, plus how strong cease fire is.

Okay, a couple days late, but this BS bothers me:

Incorrect. These are the Steam player numbers for AoM R. AoM R is also available on Xbox and PS5. Comparing only the Steam player count with that of AoE3 DE, which is only available on PC, invalidates your argument by default.

Yes cause RTS is the most popular game genre on consoles /s.

Cope more, but this game is already doomed. the fact that it is on console makes it more expensive to develop and maintain, meaning the sales margins are less forgiving.

Who hurt you? It’s okay. You can tell me.

The voices. They talk to me every day, saying aomr will be off support next year.

Yeah its worrysome, I dont think the competitive part is viable anymore, hopefully they maintain servers, but theres not dlc planned anymore. Its just not viable and profitable

I expect AoM to have a similar trajectory of AoE3 and have a Free Trial offered, since that seems to have spiked AoE3’s playerbase by a large percent.

I do have to ask though, is there a group of AoE3 players that thinks if they can get people to quit AoM that it’ll revive AoE3?

What don’t you understand? AOM is a purely casual game, people don’t come for the multiplayer but for the campaigns and playing against AI. The actual population doesn’t matter.

And they seem to make at least 2 new DLCs every year, if they plan to do that, it’s because people will come back for 1 month to play it, leave the game and come back for the next DLC etc

I appreciate the pushback against the doomposting, but I do feel it needs that needs to be backed by solid evidence, especially since doomposting is guaranteed to lack it. It’s not wise to point to two DLCs coming out in the same year as proof the game will continue to get support. That’s mainly happening because Immortal Pillars got delayed.

The truth of the matter is, we don’t really know what will happen after Heavenly Spear releases. I hope there will be more Mythical Battles, Major God packs, and Pantheons. Based on a few things I’ve seen, I assume the developers want to add more content as well. But I know that doesn’t mean they will, because financials factor into those decisions and none of us truly know how the viability of further development is being evaluated. Especially not those people doomposting with misrepresented statistics.

You don’t know the first thing about marketing to say there’ll be no more DLCS, they’ve just brought out the Japanese that nobody was expecting so they can bring out the Aztecs and Mayans for the next DLC. A lot of people are waiting for these civilisations and it’s almost a guaranteed success. Otherwise they would have released the Aztecs straight away in September if there was no more DLCS planned.

You’re really basing your belief that AOE3 will be resurrected and AOM will come to an end on bad statistics and analysis. You’re deluding yourself, but they’ve already made their choice with AOE3 and they’re not going to go back on that decision.

You do realise that the aom shares a large player base with aoe3 right? This is one of the reasons aom barely has 25% of the active players of aoe3.

Theyre thinking of a model in which they play one month and abandon the game the rest of the year? In what universe is that a good model? Listen I like your passion for the game, but if they dont do ANYTHING to the game, graphics wise (especially), gameplay, etc they game we like will not be supported further. Ill be really surprised if they drop more dlcs. The staff they got wil go to aoe2 probably since the new Chronicles seem to be a success and kind of a spinoff game in its own.

Yeah they gave them a really low budget and told them to do what they could, its not the devs fault its what they did with what they had, they probably wouldve made an incredible game if they had a AAA budget but it likely wouldve taken several years.

I don’t know who this is addressed to. I watched all of Magic’s videos as soon as he released them.

Ah, so you’re sure that there are twice as many players on Xbox, right?)))) The trend is the same everywhere.

Cute strawman. My point is that people who claim the player numbers are low pretty much always lie because they only ever use Steam player numbers for a game also on other platforms and compare them to a game only available on Steam. The “trend” you’re referring to is between a stable player base and a slow decline that will likely be reversed in the short-term when Heavenly Spear releases, assuming we can rely on the numbers in your graphs to make predictions.

Aoe3 is also on windows store. So its numbers are also higher than on steam xD
