The Issue with the AOE3 Community

I have been playing age of empires 3 for just over a decade and have had some great experiences in that time, but even I will admit that the game has many flaws (some of which have been addressed and others still looming), whether it is the unbalanced civilizations or the constant bugs via the multiplayer configuration. The problem that troubles me to a great degree is a percentage of the community. In particular, the people who will defend the game to a flaw, even when the defects are blatant and inexcusable. Now I know that the nostalgia factor plays a great deal in their justifications for the inadequacies of the game. Still, eventually, if the community wants AOE 3 to succeed and grow its player base, they will need to set the nostalgia aside. Deep down, most players would like the game to develop even further than it has been up to this point. That is why I call on all Age of Empires community members to come together and help other players and devs improve the game daily. Cheers.

Well said. It’s called putting your long term interests before your short term gains. Unfortunately though that is an evolved line of thinking shared by the minority

I don’t think most people are like that, I just think that the few that do feel that way make thier voices heard most, making it feel like that’s what the majority thinks.

Indeed, as I said it is a percentage, more or less of the community.

I couldn’t agree more.

However, the remaining players in the game seems prefer DLC rather than a normal running/balance game, this is also dev would like due to this will providing income compared to infinity bugs and unbalance issues going on.

This game is definitely bad for high-level players. That’s why more and more players on the top of ladder quit. Unbalanced civs and terrible bugs.

I think you should be more specific about those “blatant and inexcusable defects”.
If you’re talking about bugs, I don’t think anyone here would like or defend it.
If you’re talking about balancing, there is no way the community, especially people here, can agree on this (except Swedes, but there are also people yelling “Swedes fine they STILL have weaknesses”) , and people talking about balancing are always biased by their own experience (and their personal interests).

I made a post asking for a russia buff and no one disagreed with me from what I remember, but this was a month ago since it died so I may have forgotten.

When it comes to bugs there is also a second thing, some people would consider some things intended, like pillar less walls and pull trick, so determining whether or not something is a bug is also a challenge.

The response to balancing issues has been criticized for long, and no one is defending that either, except those who believe the current game (or one or two civs) is perfectly balanced, and the latter is defending the balancing itself not the response to balancing issues (if they think some other civ is broken they’ll urge the devs to change it as well).

Changing pillarless walls is much more difficult than changing sth like the cav box. It requires the total redesign of how walls work, and that is probably not considered as a bug at all like you said. But units getting stuck or bad performance on some computers is definitely not liked by anyone.
