New Leader Water UU for the Venetians:

So this is the venetians UU on water.

As I already explained, the venetians on water have an unique dynamic. They don’t get ballistae ships or any age 4 ships.

Instead, they get cheaper ships and unique upgrades for their age 2 ships that change their attacks, and add some HP.

The arsenal, your unique dock

To do a small recap, basically the venetians start with their "arrow" galleys in age 2, they they can get a fire attack for them in that same age.

In the age 3 then they can replace the arrow and fire attack with a frontal cannon. This doesn’t have the attack of a carrack or even another ballistae ships, but it still it increases the attack of the galley (which can be further boost by the gunpowder techs) and it allows the ship to fire without the need to reposition *(countrary to a carrack for example). In the age 4, you get 2 additional frontal cannons, with less attack and accuracy, but that gives overall a spread-kind attack.

On top of this, the venetians get access to galeasses, or “galee grosse”, which countrary to the French ones, they can fire in every direction at all times, without needing to reposition or stop its movement.

The Galee Grosse also have a new unique tech in the age 4, called Higher Caliber which increases its attack.

Now, the venetians had one last ace on water, which is the Galea Bastarda or Flagship.

Now, this is basically the khan on water. It’s a special leader unit that it’s not trained, but it spawn in the age 1 at your first arsenal (which is your special dock, we will call it dock from now on for convenience), and if it’s killed it respawn some time later at your older dock. The flagship takes up just 1 pop, and it automatically upgras through ages. In the first one, it doesn’t have an attack, so it can only explore and trade (with a mechanism similar to the land explorer that you can read here:The Republic of Venice: a Fan Civilization Design - #41 by DoctBaghi)


The venetian flagship or galea bastarda

Then in the age 2, it get an attack and HP that are a bit higher than a standard galley (about 50% more). In the age 3 it automatically get a frontal cannon, and in the age 4 a spread attack, much like the other galleys after the last upgrade.

But what makes the Flagship unique it’s their command abilities. Basically those are special effects thay affect the nearby ships, boosting them somehow. Only one effect can be active at the same time time, and to switch between effects its needed a reload time, when none of the effects are active.

The 3 effects are the following:

  • Diplomatic Mission your commander take personally care of setting favorable trade conditions for you, like the land explorer can buff up to 5 land merchants, the Flagship can boost up to 5 merchant ships, that follows it. Those 5 ships get more armor, and they deposit more gold at the dock (they don’t get faster like the merchants on land). The Flagship itself can bring a small amount of gold (about 20% of a trade ships).

  • Spread the command of your fleet order to take care of rotting of the wood, so all your idle ships in a large area, automatically regenerate health when out of combat (they don’t have to be idle).

  • Expert manouver your commander can better redirect and order your ships, so all military ships in a large area move 20% faster, and are ready to fire faster.

It takes 3 minutes to switch between those effects, so you need to choose carefully which one you need more.
