Not sure if that cavalry UU is the Hei Guang Cavalry. If so, what is this civilization?
I saw some people say it could be the Xianbei, but I don’t understand why it is necessary to introduce such an ancient people, while in the game they can legally be covered by their steppe descendants — the Khitans. I also don’t get that the Hei Guang armor had any special significance to the Xianbei people that would make the cavalry specifically equipped with it be their UU. I know this type of armor was one of the types of armor used by the Chinese until the Tang Dynasty, but this feels a bit random to me as a reason.
Yes but we all only have the same news article to go by.
There are a lot of hints for the new civs and we don’t know which ones are for the same civs and which ones are for different civs.
We don’t know if everything is 100% correct and we don’t know if there are changes missing in the change list.
Like are there more scenarios changed.
Is the civilisation being able to train fire archers a South East Asian one or is that just a red herring?
Is the Hei Guang cavalry the unit seen in the one techtree reveal or not? Is it the unit we saw in the old reveal screenshot?
We’ll only find out once they reveal more things.
For now we are all just making educated guesses.
At least to me, since the unit descriptoon say its upgraded to elite om the stable and a civ has an stable UU it seems reasonable enough to think that its the same unit
I dont like Xianbei as a civ either, but doesnt the wonder showed in the screenshots look like the Shaolin Monastery, built by a Xianbei led dynasty? And what other civ could we have of the time period?
I also think so. Kinda looks odd that Chinese won’t get it. Reminds me of DOI when old “Indians” lose Elephant Archer but rest of the Indian civs got it.
Maybe it just refers to the style of buildings like Shaolin Temple. Maybe it’s just a scenario editor building like the Palace. If the scenario is indeed about the Three Kingdoms, it would be unreasonable at all for the playable civ to be Xianbei.
Looks fine to me tbh. Attack upgrades are less important than armor upgrades for melee units. If the new cavalry stat is similar to a knight, their cavalry is definitely better than Dravidians and most of the time is better than Malay. In fact they have last cav armor. So in Imperial they are even better than Koreans.
My guess is -
Either they are an infantry civ with a compensatory bonus like Infantries +1 attack per barracks upgrade.
Or they are an archer civ with the Fire Archer UU. There Archery Range looks solid.
Btw Hei Guang mean “Black armor”, a type of armor was mentioned by Cao Zhi (son of Cao Cao in Three Kingdoms era). It not mean that type of armor only existed in that period. Li Shimin also have a body guard unit wear black armor.
About the building, that style was popular in China architure, not too much specifi I think
After all, I think having knight-line is almost essential unless there is alternative fast-moving units. I think the future DLCs can consider to remove access of cavalry archer-line for some civs instead of knight.
“Brilliant Armour” might be also Ming Guang. Not only Hei Guang.
Exactly it like this:
The Previous Emperor presented your vassal with armor (kai), to wit, a suit of “black-brilliant” (heiguang) and one of “bright-brilliant” (mingguang) and a suit of “double-faced” (liangtang) armor, but now that the present age is peaceful and the weapons and armor (bingge) are not of use, I request leave to turn them all over to the Armor Board (kaicao) to be taken care of.
The Hei Guang cavalry costing 65f 65g shown in the sneak peek post might be their regional replacement of the knight line. Curious to find out its stats.
Btw I don’t know which civ’s tech tree you’ve posted but unless it has a very strong uu and free eco bonus, this civ seems like a water civ weak on land. Not extremely weak like Dravidians but on the average side. Mediocre monks, no bloodlines, no melee attack upgrades beyond forging and no gunpowder. Hope they don’t repeat the same Dravidians, Bengalis, Armenians story.
That doesn’t prove anything since Shrivamsha Rider is a UU that trained and upgraded from Stable. The only clue is the “Heavy” upgraded as currently no UU is upgraded to “Heavy”.
