The water rework was necessary

Have you ever joined a ranked game and the following happens with water maps, the players on your team simply quit and the game is basically over before it even starts?

Clearly water is very unpopular. Anything that can be done to address the problems with water is good in my book. In fact I don’t think they’ve done enough.

Where’s the neutral indestructible trading ports on the corner of the map you can trade with in 1v1 one game so you do not run out of resources? Where’s the deep sea fish that literally have infinite food. Shipwrecks where you can gather treasure (gold) from with villagers?

Where’s the pirate ships on the water that act like wolves but on the sea?

this is conflating several different issues:

  • there is no system in place that allows players to find fair matches on the maps they like. best they can do is queue ranked, but you will often end up with maps you don’t like
  • there is no (sufficient) system in place to punish people who quit games early
  • water is unpopular. However water being unpopular has several aspects to it. Yes, some people dislike this specific water balance, but lots of people are also just overwhelmed by having another aspect of the game to pay attention to.
