Every single time I play with my friend in multiplayer, the game crashes in the middle of it… This game is completely unplayable.
2v2 me and friend vs 2 AI… nothing special happens when it crashes, it just always drops.

Disconnecting I think. Either way, the game shutsdown and gives a crash error.
My system is a 2020 new gaming tower. No old parts or anything.

Not sure if this is the case but sounds similar to issue my brother had.
Game worked fine, we played together many times, But at some point it just started to crash in multiplayer games.
Good computer, no mods, all Windows updates in place, LAN drivers up to date, latest GPU drivers. Tons of logs gathered for the devs and attached to the ticked many times.
We tried literally everything including multiple game re-installation, file verification, Steam reinstalltion and other stuff. Didn’t help.
Finally we found a solution, he installed new fresh Windows in separate disc and game works like a charm there again. It looks like maybe after some Windows update or due to other reason not connected to game itself some library was damaged on the old Win instance.
I suspected that kind of issue before and we used some tools to find and repair potential file issues but they didn’t help. Only fresh Windows installation did.
But of course there is a number of other things for you to check before you suspect Windows. Our case was probably very rare one.
CPU? graphics card? amount of ram?
try running the game while checking performance with like task manager or even the xbox game bar to see if there is anything strange at the time of crash

Just make sure you have it fully updated first.
Try to send the crashlogs
They get created in C:\Users\Username\Games\Age of Empires 3 DE\Logs
I can’t remember last time when this game crashed. And certainly even with a bad luck, 3DE is far, far from being unplayable.
It would be polite and courteous to first assume the problem is on your, client’s side. If this game was ‘unplayable’ one would think somebody would be talking about it here.
I haven’t had the game crash many times. I have had issues with players dropping sometimes I drop but only has happened a few times. And that usually has something to do with a specific players internet connection or if they are playing in a regions server really far from where they live. Every once in a while the server will run slow or have a hiccup and either drop everyone or several people but it’s very rare.

A good solution is to play the game on Linux. May I recommend installing Mint?
