Tinfoil hat theory: Persia is coming

Just for the sake of discussion, for those unaware, besides Irish revolution data (whether we will see it on the future for Brits or in the new War of the Three Kingdoms map) there were this strings on the Beta.

<string _locid="130558">Murid</string>
<string _locid="130559">NAT Murid</string>
<string _locid="130560">NAT MERC Murid</string>
<string _locid="130561">Rifleman from Dagestan that is better against Light Cavalry and Light Infantry than Heavy Infantry. Benefits from Skill promotions that improve range and attack speed.</string>
<string _locid="130562">25 Sufi Allies</string>
<string _locid="130563">Disciplined Murid</string>
<string _locid="130564">Honored Murid</string>
<string _locid="130565">Exalted Murid</string>
<string _locid="130566">Circassian</string>
<string _locid="130567">MERC Circassian</string>
<string _locid="130568">Repentant Circassian</string>
<string _locid="130569">Hire Circassian Mercenaries</string>
<string _locid="130570">Heavy mercenary cavalry from the Caucasus. Counters Native warriors and other Mercenaries through rapid melee attacks and precision shots.</string>

We don’t know if there were intended to be included but cut, an intentional way to promote the discussion of Persian civ, a WIP development or even we will get them in a patch.

Anyway, the thing is that they were there AoEII had also the nordic banners in the South America DLC before the last Nordic DLC announcement.

Both are Caucasian units, a place of frontier between Ottomans, Russians and Persians. They are very far from the theme of the Baltic/Artic/British Islands of the game, although it could have been just a new mercenary for Ottomans and Russians (Circassian) and a new unit for Sufi temple (Murid).

Yeah, maybe we won’t ever have more DLCs, but just a curiosity for the people.

A welcome surprise. Now hopefully they have a decent roster and decent eco, unlike some civs from DLC:

Higher chance for a DLC than a free update civ tho sound good.

Which ones? They’re both good so I don’t see any problem.

Italy and malta just suck from a design standpoint. Are not coherently designed even in regards to their own supposed design space and in general just don’t do it. Same with Sweden.

ah I agree, Italy is a frankestein civ and Malta is just an asset reusage for the theme.

If this is true, hope it finally comes to an update to Asian civ mechanics as a whole… (Consulate, Age V Mercenaries and infinite mercenary shipments, more actually useful cards, etc.)

I hope we end up getting minor civilizations for historical regions of Georgia, such as Svaneti and Khevsureti. Or even just a Georgians minor civ entirely if they can’t be playable.

Guys, we’re having Persia in 2-3 years

Persia would be so good to play in AOE3 not gonna lie, I’d love to see Middle East and Oceania get some DLC love!

My initial through is this was just stuff for the new Caspian Sea map. But the Murids being natives makes me think they’re replacing Qizilbash at the Sufi site… which they’d only be doing if they need Qizilbash for a certain civ.

There’s also another Persian outlaw mentioned. badmash - Wiktionary, the free dictionary

Do you think, with our tin foil hats firmly on, we’d get a double civ DLC or a singular one?

If a multi civ release, the obvious question is who would Persia be paired with?

If we’re going the AD route, it would make sense to pull in another worthy Asian Civ.

If we were to splinter Asia and we made Persia part of a West Asia civ region with their own mechanics, then that would be seem ideal to bring Oman in alongside.

A wider net would also include Morocco alongside Oman as a North African and West Asia grouping, although top level similarities (trade crossroads, islamic belt/technologies/architecture stylings, etc) aside, it would be a mammoth DLC - pretty much another AD as their architecture alone different in materials and elegance (Persia being far grander), meaning a new set for all.

A wildcard option would be to pair it with the fabled India split, allowing a Mughal (current Indians) rework alongside a Marathan civ for example. All EIC/Raj units could be moved to a Minor Civ EIC encampment (which itself then becomes quite flexible for maps). Gurkhas could be part of this, or of course be just a Gorka Kingdom minor civ (I actually wouldn’t have them as Mercs as they weren’t - and they to do this day, would find it disrespectful).

Would it be an Asian Civ in terms of aging up or something else? Whilst Persia is of course in Asia, Asia is a big place (I mean we have Russia and the Ottomans straddling it) and it’s okay for all Asian Civs to have one homogeneous set of mechanics but it’s also fine to have different mechanics for regions (Americas includes Fed States and Native American gameplay after all).

Just a few (inane) thoughts…

I’d say Afghans would be a logical pairing with Persia, since both are neighbors and they had their wars with each other and Indians…Also The Great Game could be a scenario to be added with both of them.

P.S: Afghans could get a Jezail unit as an OP long range skirmisher :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Yes, of course - I was literally reading about the Durrani Empire being a pain in the butt for Mughal and Persia (among others). Not sure why I left it out, but I agree they would be a great pair.

Could have a mechanic, that blocks enemy shipments

Circassia confirmed as a new civilization…:joy:

Assuming a Persia civ DLC is actually in the works…

For AoE3 there has been consistent trend of DLC packs with 2 different civs related to some kind of theming. The only exception to this has been the “federal American civs” like Mexico and USA.

That means that they are mostly likely going pair Persia with another civ that fits a general theme. What theme that will be? No idea honestly. Options include Omani, Morrocco, Afghans.

Either Oman, Afghans or Uzbeks for proximity, I would say

Yo no se si se dieron cuenta pero en la beta cambiaron la skin del mameluco. Algo que no tiene relevancia en un DLC baltico. Puede que se estén preparando para un futuro dlc con civilizaciones asiaticas

They stated that they changed the Mameluke cause it didnt look heavy enough to represent the high HP pool that the unit has

This is the era of Grigory Zass…
