People love Variants, they dont
the more variants they add, the more Cavalry Focused Problem
All the New Variants are all Cavalry Focused, do the devs not see this as an issue?
we need actual infantry civs, stop with the Knights and Cav spam
and Spearman just sucks against the new mega knights they added, Sengoku 56% winrate on team ranked, and solo 55% said enough, fix the spear brace, or add new armoured pikeman like they do historically
to deal with 1 armoured knight, you need 4 spears, thats just stupid design. because a single knight trained faster than 4x spears

The most baffling aspect of AOE4 is undoubtedly the design of the Japanese civilization’s cavalry units, which are made so powerful. It should be noted that historically, the Japanese have never been a nation known for their cavalry prowess. In fact, before the introduction of better horse breeds in the 19th century, cavalry had always been a rather obvious weakness for Japan. Japanese horses were even smaller than Mongolian horses. Based on history and cultural characteristics, AOE4 should have designed the Japanese as a nation with strengths in infantry and city defense.

True. European horse larger than Mongolian horse larger than Japanese horse (In the game’s period). Larger horse size generally means carrying heavier weight (so riders can put heavier armor on themselves or on the horses) and stronger charge, while smaller horses might have better endurance and maneuverability.
I am not sure if Mongolian heavy cav in game (Keshik) has lower HP than normal knight/lancer due to this reason (they also have lower damage, and lower cost for balance). If it is, then Japanese mounted samurai might also supposed to have lower HP, with some other strength unique to Japanese
