ISSUE EXPERIENCED
While playing with idiom set to Brazilian Portuguese, I noticed many issues, ranging from simple errors in translation to some inconsistencies.
Since Brazil has a sizeable player base, I decided to start a thread reporting every issue I’ve found while checking names and descriptions both in game and in the tech tree and extended tooltip. This way, player experience can be improved.
The following does not include civilizations specifics, like bonus and unique units. But I intend to do this too if moderators deem it ok to post it here.
To simplify understanding, I applied the following visual pattern:
In Italics, the current, incorrect use; in Bold the right use if already in-game or my proposed correction if not.
Generic issues
- Virtually every melee/pierce armor bonus or upgrade description reads as the following:
+1 corpo a corpo/+1 armadura antiprojétil
Thanks to the way the Portuguese language is structured, this way fails to specify melee armor is being upgraded. The correct should be:
“+1 armadura corpo a corpo/+1 antiprojétil”
-
In civilizations bonus descriptions, Age is translated as Era instead of the established ingame Idade
-
The same happens with the Town Center, which is many times (including pierce attack upgrades and Redemption descriptions) refered as Centro Urbano (literally, “Urban Center”) instead of the usual, correct ingame Centro da Cidade.
-
Cannon Galleon is translated as Galeão com Canhão while Elite Cannon Galleon appears as Galeão Canhoneiro de Elite. I believe that Galeão Canhoneiro sounds better.
-
Fishing Ship appears in tech tree, civ bonus and tech descriptions as Navio Pesqueiro while in game it is called Barco de Pesca. Both uses are right but there should be only one so as to avoid inconsistency.
-
Fire Galley: Navio de Fogo (same as Fire Ship) → Galé de Fogo, consistent with Galley → Galé.
-
Fire Lancer: Lanceiro Montado de Fogo (lit. Mounted Fire Lancer) → Lanceiro de Fogo
-
Wheelbarrow and Handcart are both translated in-game as Carrinho de Mão. Handcart should be instead → Carroça de Mão
-
When hovering the pointer in the UI, detailed stats for pierce, both attack and armor, shows as Perfurar (lit. To Pierce).
Attack should be Projétil, while armor should be Antiprojétil
-
Long Swordsman appears as Guerreiro de Espada Longa in the tech tree and Espadachim in-game. The latter use fails to tell its sword is long.
-
Extended description of Archer is Arqueiro de Infantaria (lit. Infantry Archer) → Arqueiro a Pé, consistent with its upgrades.
-
Every female Villager specific tasks lack gender agreement, which is simply solved by adding an “a” at the end of every type of work: Lenhador → Lenhadora; Agricultor → Agricultora; etc
-
House description states it provides 5 populações (literally, five populations) → 5 de população
-
Siege Tower description: … sobre as muralhas (literally, atop the walls( → …por sobre as muralhas
-
Bombard Cannon: Canhão (lit. Cannon) → Canhão de Bombardeio, consistent with Torre de Bombardeio (Bombard Tower)
-
Light Cavalry line: descibed as Ginete leve (lit. Light Genitour) → Cavaleiro leve
Chronicles
-
Levy: Bandeirante (lit. flag bearer, a kind of Colonial Brazil explorer) → Recruta
-
Paragon: Modelo de Pafos (lit. Paphos Model) → Parágono
-
Leviathan: Leviathan (left untranslated) → Leviatã

REPRODUCTION STEPS
List CLEAR and DETAILED STEPS we can take to reproduce the issue ourselves… Be descriptive!
Here’s the steps to reproduce the issue:
- Set language to Brazilian Portuguese
- Read bonus, units and upgrades names and descriptons
- Compare them in the game UI and the Technology Tree
