I hope they will introduce a trash ram for one of the new civs.
The civ won’t be able to upgrade the ram, but will have an upgrade in Imp to remove the gold cost or convert the gold cost to wood for rams, like trash bows.
All units have a special upgrade for at least one civ. The ram is the forgotten one**;** it has Mongol, Ethiopian, and Celt bonuses, but when you think about the siege of those civs, you think of rams last.
Rams are fun and could shine with some bonuses.
Somebody has never had their base wiped out by Mongol rams. If I’m getting Drill with Mongols, it’s because I intend to go siege rams. Literally the most powerful upgrade for rams in the game. It takes away their greatest weakness. Siege Rams are THE Mongol siege specialty.
Celt Siege Rams are nothing to ignore either, but I suppose their mangonels benefit more from their siege bonuses to Arabia players. So I won’t fault you for that error this time.
But you are right about rams being an afterthought to the Ethiopian bonus. Scorpions and Bombard Cannons take that honor.
But as to the main topic, battering rams are the weak link of the ram-line. They are such a huge investment that if your ram push fails you’ve pretty much lost the game.
