I read some of the older posts on this topic, and the solutions to common complaints are actually pretty straightforward. Treaty should be a supported game mode and have a matchmaking and ranked system associated with it as long as the treaty is set/defaulted at 15 minutes for competitive games. Ranked treaty shouldn’t have ANY options for setting the treaty time. They should decide if they want it to be 10 minutes or 15 minutes, and establish it as a legitimate game mode.
Not letting it go any longer than 15 minutes solves problems of it being a deathmatch, just sitting around unable to fight for long periods of time, taking too long, etc. It creates good balance of building, economy management, aging up, without being a deathmatch. It also solves matchmaking problems because players have no control over the time. It is 10/15 minutes and thats it.
I tested a bunch in Advanced Game Settings, and most games are over inside 30 minutes. A lot are over inside of 25 minutes.
